Having shock wave therapy is not without risk regardless how many times you have it.
As your father's stone is in the ureter, it may not be possible for it to be shattered.
Your father needs to discuss the risks involved with the urologist.
Thanks a lot for ur reply.
I just need to know is lithotripsy treatment is harmful or any side impact if it is performed more than once..??
That's a very huge stone for the size of the ureter.
My stone was very small in comparison when it was stuck in the ureter and the only way to get it out was surgically.
If you father can have his stone shattered by lithotripsy so that the small pieces can come out on their own, albeit it is very painful, it is better than having a surgical operation to remove the stone.
When the stone gets removed, he should have it analysed to find out what type of stone it is. As he has had stones before and has one now, even when this is removed, he will still be at a very high risk of getting stones again.
Therefore, to avoid getting them back, it is important to have the stones analysed to find out what is causing them and also regardless of what the stones are composed of, your father must drink a lot of water every day.
Two to 3 litres of water drunk throughout the day is recommended, but if the weather is hot, or he is sweating a lot, he may need to drink more.
Best wishes
