hematuria

Hello, I am 31 year old asian man.  I got married 1 month back in india and returned back 10 days before to u.s.a.  Since 2 days, I was suffering with pain and burning during urination.  Today I got blood in urine.  What could be the reason.  The burning and pain occurs near the base of my penis where the scrotum starts.  I am drinking water normally and also get enough volume of water through urine.

Hello Dr. Veena, Thank you very much for your advice.  I went to doctor and it looks that infection is the primary reason.  My W.B.C count is now decreasing and the blood is gone too.  I am on Ciprofloxacin.  Drinking lot of water.  By the way, culture did not grow any bacteria but my W.B.C was too high on the first day of urine examination.
I have a question, After 7 days of 250mg Cipro, do you think this will totally go away?  I just don't want to risk my Kindney.  Will culture help when the bacterial count is low.

Hi,
How are you? Burning  pain and bleeding during urination is due to infection, if not treated appropriately can lead to damage to the kidney. I would suggest that you get a urine analysis with culture done, and take the course of antibiotics depending upon the report.
The other causes for bleeding in urine could be renal stones, glomerulonephritis, urethral rupture etc. But I, think it is more of infectious component playing the role in your case.
Consult a urologist for further assistance.
Best.
