I've had lower abdominal pain on the right side for more than a year now. At first it was severe, on and off, and I assumed it was an ovarian cyst because of the location. I went to a gyno but they didn't see anything wrong. It continued to come and go until almost a year ago when I also developed flank pain. One day it got so severe the pain shot up into my kidney area and left me in the worst agony. I went to the ER but got nowhere. I went to a normal doctor a few days later who told me I had blood in the urine so sent me to a CT scan. The scan revealed "something" on the ureter about 5cm up from the bladder. So then I got sent to a urologist who did a cystoscopy and later a ureteroscopy which both showed to be "normal" according to the urologist (although some samples that were taken during the ureteroscopy were "lost"). My pain was worse after the ureteroscopy, so the the urologist sent me for another CT scan, this time with higher resolution, which showed an artery running over my right ureter in the same area the first CT scan showed "something". Before I got the result to the last scan I went back to the gyno thinking it was still gynelogical. The gyno said she couldn't see anything but sent me to have a laproscopy just to be sure, which showed as normal. I then went back to the urologist to discuss what can be done about my pain. He said that the artery running over my ureter is not a danger to my life and that I should be very happy it's not cancer or a tumor that would need surgery. I said I still have bad pain every day now, some days worse than others and that I feel that there is something there, especially when I bend over. He said I should just take anti-inflammatories and go to a pain clinic. Of course, I'm very pleased that it's not cancer, but I've been so depressed because I have so much pain and especially after his last comments. What should I do? Is this urologist right that this can be dealt with via a pain clinic or should he be investigating this further? If this artery is what is causing my pain, isn't there something a urologist can do to reduce it, perhaps surgically? Or should I be looking into the fact that something else is causing the pain?
