I was started at 50,000 units a day, and when my level reached 80, I went down to 5000. Checked recently, still near 80.

Most people are NOT exposed to the sun on a regular basis.
How could they be?
The optimal time frames for the skin to generate Vitamin D is between 10 am and 3pm - when most people in the western world work (usually from 9 to 5).
Granted, this may not be the case with  shivayya, but food alone CANNOT provide adequate levels of Vitamin D (not even close), and furthermore, most foods contain synthetic form of Vitamin D, which is D2 - and that thing is far less potent compared to the active D3 form our skin makes in the sun (Which means, that if foods are fortified with certain amount of D2, the amount of D3 the body converts that into will be minuscule by comparison).

I disagree with your point that food doesn't contain enough vitamin d. If a person having good intake of vitamin d rich food and enough exposure to sun then it will be a good source of vitamin D. I haven't said that go out in between 10am to 3pm. I said neither limited nor extreme exposure to sun is good.

Secondly milk is not at all dangerous to any one. As it might be not a good source for vitamin D but it is indeed an essential product that every human should take.

Food doesn't contain nearly enough vitamin d for maintaining or raising ones level in the body.
Furthermore, a lot of the foods such as milk are fortified with Vitamin D2 (which is a synthetic form and practically useless to Humans - can also be dangerous at high doses, whereas Vitamin D3 is not dangerous to Humans and is desirable to have a lot of it).

The RDA levels are a joke. adult Human skin generates 10 000 IU after 15 mins in the summer sun between 10am and 3pm, and 20 000 IU after 25 to 30 mins.

Main reason of deficiency of vitamin D is that you are not taking vitamin D rich food in your daily diet. If your exposure to sunlight is limited. If Your kidneys do not convert vitamin D to its active form than also it imply to the deficiency of vitamin D.

Deficiency of vitamin D include several health issues like Increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease, Cognitive impairment in older adults, asthma and even cancer.

Yes, doctors can certainly help you with raising Vitamin D levels, but generally they will do so until you reach about 30 ng/ml - but this level was established because it was observed with avoidance of certain basic medical issues.

However, no toxicity was reported at 50 - 80 ng/ml levels... and even better, it would appear that 100 - 130 ng/ml levels are the upper maximum desirable levels for excellent health.

Supplementing with Vitamin D3 - 10 000 IU daily should be enough to raise levels from deficiency into the maxed out range after say 2 or 3 months (maybe more).

I'm no expert, but my doctors have helped me with my Vitamin  D. Our body makes it when we are in the sun, but unless you are a sun bather, you probably don't make enough. Your doctor can order a blood test to measure your Vitamin D3. There are several forms of Vitamin D and we need to take Vitamin D3. Your doctor will tell you how much to take. Vitamin D3 is especially important in helping your bones stay strong.

Food doesn't contain nearly enough Vitamin D to keep your levels in the healthy range.
The RDA is a proverbial joke.
An adult Human body generates 10 000 IU after 15 mins in the summer sun (between 10 am and 3pm), and 20 000 IU after about 25 to 30 mins in the summer sun.

If people aren't regularly out in the sun, they cannot get enough Vitamin D.

Vitamin D is a relatively forgiving vitamin - which means you can go on without it for a period of time before 'topping up'... however, one cannot go on indefinitely like that (such as getting the sun only in the summer on a vacation or several times per year), and you will eventually be deficient.
Which is why its better to either be on the sun as much as possible, or you supplement to get it (with 10 000 IU on a say daily basis - it needs to be Vitamin D3 though).

reason might be that you dont eat enough nutrients that include vitamin d and it might be that you dont get enough sunlight you should get supplements if you want but i think you should first go to doctor and maybe get bloodwork done to make sure
