Its definitely possible.
Each person has a relatively unique biochemical makeup (and while there are some similarities between person to person, those similarities cannot be used to generalize), I think medical diagnosis and treatments should have been structured in a capacity to first get an exact picture of a person's individual biochemistry and tailor them (even vitamin supplements) to it so efficiency would be maximized while reducing any possible problems.
Of course, we know this is possible to achieve, but living in a world where profit drives virtually every industry, we know its not going to happen anytime soon (usually, to get an accurate biochemical makeup of your body, potential allergies, the foods that might disagree with you or which ones can produce highest vitamin/mineral absorption... you need to pay a lot for it).
Also... the RDA values for vitamins are the absolute minimum of minimums that the body can apparently function with without getting some base problems such as rickets.
But for long term health and wellbeing, much-higher doses are definitely required (and while some people could tolerate even higher doses than megadoses, I think you need to also find your limit by experimenting and see what your upper threshold is - which I think will be rather high for pretty much everyone, such as 10 000 IU or 20 000 IU of Vitamin D3, but that going above that would not be beneficial for them).
Indeed, even I recall if spent too much time in the sun that I could get a headache, etc.
Mineral RDA values are seemingly closer to the actual recommended values, but its still recommended to go just enough overboard to 'reap the benefits' (so to say)... how much depends on how much your body can tolerate without adverse problems.
At any rate... you could try taking 10 000 IU or 14 000 IU on a daily basis and see how that goes.
It would probably speed up your Vitamin D accumulation in the body and the dosage might just be low enough for you to tolerate without feeling strange like you did with the higher doses.
If the Human body generates 20 000 IU of Vitamin D after about 25 to 30 mins in the summer sun between 11am and 3pm... then its possible your maximum tolerable limit 'might' (I repeat 'might') be around 20 000 IU (although granted, it could be lower).
Its also possible that your body may not tolerate higher intakes of Vitamin D3 right now because your levels aren't where you can tolerate more (coupled with your biochemistry).
As I said... you can try 10 000 IU or 14 000 IU for a day or so to see how it goes, and remain on this dose if you don't feel odd.
:-)
They are in capsule form.
Just got my new blood results today and my D came up to 27 from 19 in four weeks. I did this while taking 7000 iu daily.
When I took that 25000 iu that one time I felt very strange, jittery, very groggy, and lasted for three days. I am going to stay where I was at 7000 iu.
I guess everyone reacts differently.
I started taking Vitamin D3 (10 000 IU) once daily 5 and a half weeks ago, but I increased the dose at one point to 150 000 IU for 3 days, followed by 100 000 IU for another 3 days, and another 50 000 IU for final 3 days before reducing it back to 10 000 IU daily.
I've read that this sort of a 'megadose' effectively can treat various colds, etc.
Dunno if it worked or not since I felt pretty healthy as is - but its possible I increased D levels in my body quickly that way.
I'm mainly on 20 000 IU daily now... though I'll probably drop it back down to 10 000 IU daily because I don't think higher doses are necessary.
I think I did experience a minor headache and grogginess which went away pretty soon after taking the 'megadose'... but nothing that I couldn't manage.
What kind of Vitamin D3 did you receive if you don't mind me asking?
Was it in pill form or something else?
