Any Negative Floating Around?

As we all travel this path to health, there are times that negative thoughts or poor choices are made with regard to food or exercise.  If you're experiencing any of these .. it is helpful to share them and then think of positive ways to address them ... individually and with friends.  It also makes it real .. when we actually state it.

So .. I'll start us out ...

Late night eating is something I struggle with now and then ... and believe I always will.  Learning how to live with that and how to implement positive options is what leads us to be successful.  Here's my positives ...

I will not give up.
I will win this battle.
I will find healthy things to eat that are low in calories ... like a huge salad with minimal dressing ... oatmeal that is filing ... or 1-2 servings of Italian wedding soup
I will remind myself that I can feel my feelings and they are just that .. feelings .. they do not control me and eating food does not help.
I control my choices and I will make better ones and forgive myself when I occasionally fail.
I will save a few extra calories in the day to use at night.

Remember, there is no situation so completely hopeless that something constructive cannot be done about it. When faced with a minus, ask yourself what you can do to make it a plus. A person practicing this attitude will extract undreamed-of outcomes from the most unpromising situations. Realize that there are no hopeless situations; there are only people who have hopeless attitudes.

Any you care to share .. or get help with?  Would love to know what you do to avoid eating at night .. the more we learn .. the more tools in our arsenal.  :)

Barb ~ Oatmeal and green tea are also in my arsenal when I'm hungry.  The green tea adds volume to my tummy and the oatmeal keeps me feeling full ... sit heavy on my tummy and takes a while to digest being a complex carb.  You may want to try soup (Campbell's Select Italian Wedding Soup is my favorite .. and you can eat 2 servings) and/or a huge salad (I like Paul Neuman's Light Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette) 2 TBSP is 70 calories and it's yummy)!  Then .. if you're hungry or have the munchies, try some popcorn and/or a fudgesickle (for 35 calories .. Wells Blue Bunny).  LOVE YOUR Attitude! .. Don't ever give up!  Let's all work together to success!

Trudie ~ You may want to try eating an apple before you go to the store or go in and buy just that and eat it, then shop .... it helps.  As for the chocolate temptations at the check out .. I have those too.  Look some little tins of chocolate covered mints .. think you can eat 2 of them for 15 calories.  It gives you chocolate, which you crave, and the mint somehow settles your tummy and changes the flavors you're craving.  Just be sure to let them melt in your mouth.  Exercise is key and that is true for me as well .. if I don't exercise, I lose very little.  You may want to make a deal with yourself .. absolutely NO TV until you exercise.  Just make YOU the priority!

Skailark ~ Thank you for the wonderful ideas about making a routine for the whole week.  I will commit to doing that for next week and then have all of you hold me accountable for completing my list.  I will journal it on my exercise tracker and then follow it through the week.  Thanks for the motivation and the idea.

Sure appreciate all of your posts .. we're in this together .. and you are each inspiring!!!

I do pretty good on the eating thing.  If I'm out shopping when I'm hungry I can get into trouble by buying a chocolate bar or something else that is sweet.  I'm trying to change my habits so that doesn't happen.  The hardest thing for me is the exercise.  With the thyroid situation eating right keeps me from gaining but unless I exercise it doesn't really come off.  I'm breaking my TV habit so that I am not booking my evenings that way so I'll have more time to put towards exercise.  I sometimes don't drink enough water either and notice that when I haven't that my weight might go up a bit because my body is holding on to all the water it has.

I often get a craving for salty things or tootsie rolls - potato chips have always been my downfall and when I weighed 115 lbs and could control my weight easily, it didn't matter if I indulged.  Now with the thryoid problem and this excess poundage that won't let go of me, I can't do that anymore.  The worst time for me is in the evenings and I've been trying to get up and do something - clean the kitchen, do laundry, sweep floors, work out, etc until the craving goes away.  Another thing that helps is to brew a cup of hot green tea (I like green tea with jasmine or ginger).  Or - if I'm truly hungry and not just bored, sometimes, I go for that bowl of oatmeal or some cereal.  So far none of those things have helped me lose any weight, but at least I don't pack them on quite as fast.  And I'm not giving up.  Thanks.
