Here is some info that pretty much works for everyone that I usually give to people who are asking for tips.
Step one: Find out how much you need to eat to lose weight.
Try this TDEE calculator to find out what your body burns in a day:

Step Two: To lose weight, the best method is to eat 500 calories below your TDEE calories.
This should give you a rough estimate of how many calories to eat in a day. Let's say your TDEE is 2200 calories. That means you would aim to net no more than 1700 calories a day.
You'll find that it's really not that tough to cut out 500 calories per day. Once the body adjusts to a little less, you should feel comfortable eating this amount. Intense hunger should not be a factor.
Since you're cutting calories, you want to aim for low calorie foods. But not only that, also check the food labels for foods high in fiber.
Vegetables are great, lean meats, whole grains. If you can avoid sugary soda, that will help as well.
I'm not sure how much access you have to nutritional information, but sometimes just cutting down can be a start. Don't starve yourself, just eat about 20% less than you normally would.
Avoid diet pills. They can be dangerous, and they are a temporary solution.
Exercise is always good. Moderate exercise, like walking, light jogging, swimming, etc, are all great. Aim for strength-training, too, if you can. That is a very effective method for slimming down, especially for women.
