Sunday Weigh in April 21, 2024

Good morning... how is everyone doing this fine Sunday morning?  Yes, it is a fine morning, here and I hope it is where you are, as well.

It's been another quiet week - I'm still struggling with the stent from the Lithotripsy for my kidney stone and I'm definitely feeling like I've wasted an entire month, not being able to do things I normally do, such as my yard work, a lot of things around the house that require lifting, pushing/pulling, etc.  I haven't passed anything resembling a kidney stone - just some very fine granules that were "so" fine I wasn't even able to scrape them from the strainer into the jar they gave me to save fragments into.

Anyway, I still have some things to do for the kitchen remodel, but am having a lot bladder spasms and pressure so am afraid to do the usual climbing and other things involved with what I need to get done.  Needless to say, I'm not a real happy camper.

I did get a call from my cardiologist's office with results from an ultrasound they did on the arteries in my legs.  They had checked to see if there was blockage in the arteries that could be causing/contributing to my shortness of breath.  There is some mild blockage, but they said nothing to be concerned about at this point.  They did say that I should walk as much as possible and I said I usually try to walk ~ a mile a day.  They were very happy with that and said keep it up.  I did mention the stent from the Lithotripsy and that I wasn't able to walk that far right now because of the pain/pressure, but they said to build back up asap.  My neighbor and I have continued to walk daily and although I have been unable to walk as far or as fast as usual, I have done quite well.  I was quite pleased this morning... With perseverance, I did manage to do the actual distance we normally do, just a lot slower.  It's progress and I'm happy with it.  We have 2 routes we walk and we've been doing the one closer to home because I haven't been able to do the entire distance but maybe this week, we'll be able to do the other route, since I can now handle the further distance.  We'll see!!

Aside from struggling with all that, I try to keep my sanity by practicing my calligraphy and "trying" to make pretty cards to send for birthdays and other events.

Anyway, through all that, I've managed to lose about a 1/2 pound from last week.  Not much, but down is down - at least it's in the right direction!!!  Will see if I can get more momentum going with it this coming week.

We're off to run some errands.  I hope everyone was able to meet their goals and look forward to hearing about it.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

It will be a happy day for you when they finally take care of that darn stent, Barb. Is it to be expected that you haven't seen dramatic chunks of kidney stone? Do they pulverize everything so completely that there's not any noticeable bits left?

My weight has stayed the same as last week. At least it isn't creeping up, which a few weeks ago it was doing. A few days of mostly salads will help, I think.

Our neighbor knocked on our door last night for advice -- they had found a very young kitten in the blackberry bushes and knew nothing about how to take care of it. They have raised two kids but the family has never had a pet. (!) My son and I went over, and the neighbor went to the pet store with a list from me for KMR and a bottle, and we got the kitten fed. They were kind of delighted and frightened and unsure all together, but since the baby is only about 3 weeks old, I encouraged them to keep him until he's old enough to be exposed to the viruses in a shelter environment. (I personally think the Cat Distribution System was at work, and he is now their cat, but I didn't act too smug about it lest they balk.) They called this morning to say little Brambleberry slept well on the dog heating pad I had brought over, and had eaten and peed. We'll go by and see him later today. That was a fun break in routine for my son and me, we love cats.

My son has his second driving lesson today, so we're off. This time, I won't eat a gigantic lunch at our favorite restaurant with him and my husband afterward. A good time to start on the straight and narrow.

Have a great week!

Won't we both be glad when the stent comes out, so I can stop talking about it??  :-)  I'm not really sure what they expected, but apparently their laser totally obliterated any sign of a kidney stone.  I did pass one "thing" that I thought might have been a fragment.  I put it in my little jar and sealed it up but a couple of days later all that was left was a yellow "blob" that wasn't much larger than a pin head.  Instead of part of a stone, it must have simply been some kidney/bladder tissue, but stones don't "dry out" like that.    My stone was relatively small and the procedure was pretty much preventative so I'm guessing that the laser blasted it nothing unrecognizable granules.   Faced with the same situation in the future, I'll definitely rethink the options!!

You've done well maintaining.. are you saying you need to eat salads for a few days to make the scale move?

Oh, that's sweet that the neighbors came to get advice on how to care for the kitty.   I'm surprised you didn't just keep it since you like cats so well.  Brambleberry is big name for tiny kitten so I hope they can figure a way to get down to his size.. lol.  Awesome that he peed - do they know they might have to rub his bum with a warm, damp cloth (mom would lick) to stimulate him to poo?   No doubt by the time Bramble is old/healthy enough to go to the shelter your neighbors will be in love with him and will simply take him in to be neutered and keep him.  Put a feather in your cap for giving the neighbors the right advice for things to get for the babe...

Ah, another driving lesson.  I trust it went well, since you and husband have been driving with him around the neighborhood.    There's always times it's okay to have a celebratory lunch after a good lesson.    We went to Texas Roadhouse for steaks for lunch today... well, I had a steak that was pretty good.  Husband tried their pulled pork and it was so salty he couldn't eat it.   He enjoyed the salad, baked potato and rolls - not a real good lunch.

Enjoy your week.
I don't think that in general if I want to lose a few pounds I have to resort to a salads-only approach, I just have to stop eating sweet things. But lately I wouldn't mind kick-starting a downhill weight trajectory a bit more, and eating salads would work. We have a fridge full of deli salads at the moment -- a chopped broccoli with lemon and dill dressing, and a white-bean salad, and also one with Thai noodles -- so it would be no hardship, I'm not talking about days of plain iceberg lettuce with a squeeze of lemon. Basically I'm still trying to knock off the effects of the cookie binge that went with doing the taxes and my stepdad's obituary.

I did tell the neighbors about how to get the kitty to poop, and they've even been getting up every 4 hours to feed him, bless them. They're doing pretty well for first-time pet handling. He's at that cute wobbly-legged walking stage with the little triangular tail held out rigidly. I was buying cat food on Amazon for our cats, and picked up a better bed heater for little Bram ... the one I lent them was for a dog outdoors, and it doesn't have heat setting choices, and it's pretty big. He needs a soft, small one that they can turn down if it's too hot. (I did tell them about putting the dog heater under only part of his blanket so he could move to a cooler spot in his box if he was too warm, but I wasn't sure they got what I was saying.) Amazon will deliver tomorrow, and I'll take the better pad over to them.

Our cats are not in the mood even to accept each other. Dashi is such a dufus, he's been jumping on Sprocket pretty constantly, probably just misguidedly trying to get some contact but he does bite. She doesn't run away and get safe, she stands and shrieks at him and they lash out at each other. It's a miracle she hasn't started pooping on the floor next to the catbox to show her disdain. A new kitten at this moment would be throwing gasoline on the fire. Besides, I kind of think he's their boy. The man of the house found him and he and his son had to dig through brambles to get to him, and I just wonder if it wasn't meant to be. :-)
I missed this comment... I'm glad you're not going for an "iceberg lettuce only" diet since iceberg lettuce has the least nutrition of all lettuce and is mostly water.  Salads with lots of other veggies added can make some pretty good meals.  I need to give that a try myself.  My problem is that buying those veggies means a lot of waste because I'd have to eat them all by myself since husband is an iceberg lettuce and tomato person when it comes to veggies, unless it's corn.

Sounds like you're giving the neighbors a good start with the kitten and I'm sure they're having a great time with it, even if perhaps getting a bit tired from lack of sleep

You might be right, that it was a match meant to be.
