Be prepared for your metabolism to be all messed up and your hormones and it may never be the same again! After having my kids nothing about my body is the same. I felt like I was in a strangers body. I've had to learn how everything affects me all over again It might take time trying a ton of different things before you know what works.
I was a sz7/8 since I was 12 and I've always been active and food was a no brainer. now I'm lactose intollerent,always loved milk, eggs make me sick,loved them too, and I cry at the drop of a hat, never used to.
So give it time, it took 9 mos. to put it on It might take just as long to take it off. You can do it!!!
Yes, you could suddenly have an issue with thyroid, insulin resistance or PCOS after having a baby. While these issues often come on gradually, pregnancy can sometimes "hurry them up", because all of your hormones seem to "whack out" during pregnancy. Maybe your thyroid has been getting worse over time, but you didn't realize it. That's what happened to me.
I have fought fatigue for the better part of my life, but never had a weight problem at all, until one day, I got up and stepped on the scale -- I'd gained 5 pounds from the day before; I kept on gaining, sometimes at the rate of 5-10 lbs/week........... and nothing I did could make it stop. By the time I got my doctor to test my thyroid, I'd gained 30+ pounds in < 3 months. I'm now on daily thyroid medication, and feel much better, but still struggling to lose the weight.
The pill was perscribed to me from a doctor who had NONE of my medical history and just knew I was breastfeeding so gave me that. He didnt even discus it with me, I just said Id like to find something and he gave me a piece of paper and left. So I dont think its a big deal to go off the pill.
I have been big my whole life (except when I was really sick and then kept most of it off) but this is something Im WORKING at. I count every calorie, even in eggs and things that people dont even thing have many calories. (did you know that 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast and a glass of chocolate milk is 500 cal?!?!? I was shocked when I started counting) Would thyroid, insulin and PCOS be something that I could suddenly have an issue with after having a baby? It was 3 months after that I started gaining and I had lost 25lbs just days after birth.
If you are gaining like that, you might want to see your doctor and have your thyroid checked. Your thyroid is instrumental in controlling metabolism, and if it's not producing adequate hormones, weight gain/inability to lose, is often one of the first signs. Another thing to have checked is insulin resistance or PCOS. Both of these can also cause weight gain.
That said, are you keeping track of the calories you are eating? Sometimes, we end up eating a lot more than we think we are. MedHelp has some excellent trackers, along with the food diary. I recommend that you give them a try.
