it sometimes is nothing. ive had 1 pap come back abnormal and the next was normal. i understand the concern but like i said it may not be anything. they sometimes can be that way. just try not to worry and hopefully the next one will be fine
efinch answered in the same way I would have answered I too had an abnormal pap test back in january and come to find out I have the HPV which is the Human Papolloma Virus. Just something that I would like to add to efinch's info you could be a carry of HPV and if you have had any type of stressful situations going on this could bring HPV about, also your male partner can be a carry and never know it. Also as efinch stated it could be related to when you had sex in relation to when you had your pap test done I wouldn't stress it. Go back in six months and have it rechecked also if they want you to have a colposcopy done I will forwarn you it hurts they have have to clip a little piece of your cervix off and have it tested but the doctor will decide whether that is a necessity or not. Just trust that GOD will take care of you.
An abnormal Pap result does not necessarily mean you have cervical cancer. Abnormal results can be caused by anything from a mild bacterial/yeast infection to having sex within 48 hours of the exam to HPV infection. Are you your partner's first sexual partner? If not, it is possible they may have exposed you to HPV (which includes your basic genital warts as well as the strain of viruses that cause about 80% of all cervical cancers). However, if you you got the full series of Gardisil shots (you get 3) and you are as careful as you say you are with condom usage, then this is probably not the case. Go back in 6 months and get a repeat test. Until then, try not to worry about it.
I had a Pap come back abnormal last year and freaked out thinking my boyfriend had given me genital warts and I would have to get my cervix removed and would never have kids, etc. It turns out that the abnormal result was caused by having sex the night before my Pap, and when I went back for a repeat everything was fine. Hopefully this is the case for you!
