Menstral Question

My fiance thought she had period, I guess noticed the obvious, and had cramping. Today she says this is a "false alarm." Is spotting and cramping before a period normal? I never asked if she saw this before, but from a Google search, a few places said this is somewhat normal. She's not on BC or anything.

Right around now, I've seen it come on the 27th, and as early as the 20th. So... usually the last week or so of the month it comes.
