I had a pelvic US for monthly ovulation pain. My doctor said US was normal. It said, "Unremarkable Ultrasound" regarding both of my ovaries, but I pointed out that the volume of my left ovary was 25 and right was 8. No other findings (cyst, etc...). Doctor ordered a follow up US in 4 weeks. My question, can an ovary be normal and just filled with fluid? Can an ultrasound miss a cyst or cancerous mass? The head radiologist reviewed my film with my doctor and said it was good picture.
My right ovary has remained the same size for a year. My left has increased in volume by 11 cc. I have had 2 C-sections, and just got my period back a year ago after breastfeeding for 2 years. I am inclined to just have the ovary removed. No cancer history in my family, I had a tubal ligation, was on the pill for 20 years, and breastfed for 3 years total, so I know my ovarian cancer risk is low, but I am scared and have young children. Please advise. Thank you. The waiting is a pain.
