Questions about Fibroids

Hello:

A week ago Monday, I got a sudden pain in the abdomen that stopped me in my tracks. It was so bad that I could not walk. Fast forward to this past Wednesday and I was told that, based on my ultrasound, I have a mass in my uterus that is poking out the top and probably pressing on my bladder. My primary care seems to think it may be a fibroid, however she referred me to a gynecologist to clarify the ultrasound images. I have been in constant pain since it first attacked me a week and five days ago. Vicodin is barely taking the edge off it and when it wears off, the pain comes back full blast. I have not been able to work or do much else.

My questions for you are:

--> Do fibroids cause pain to come out of the blue like that? I've read that the pain tends to be worse around cycle time. However, I had just ended my cycle 2-3 days before my pain started.
--> Do fibroids occur without bleeding? Just about every post I have read online, as well as the online literature, has stated that bleeding inbetween periods is a common symptom of fibroids. Other than the occasional spot here and there, plus a brown clot about an inch in diameter which I passed today, I have not experienced bleeding.

My other symptoms include frequent urination, difficulty urinating, brain fog, drowsiness/fatigue (which started long before I started the Vicodin), feeling full quickly, and a sense that my body is telling me something is wrong.

I see the gyn this coming Monday. In the meantime, if someone could help me get a better idea of what the fibroid symptoms are like in relation to my questions, I would appreciate it. Perhaps it would help me have a better conversation with my doctor.

Thanks in advance,

K

Hello:

I went to the GYN and it turned out that the fibroids, if any, are not the source of my pain. I have a solid mass on my left ovary. The doctor wants to take out the ovary/mass and send it off to pathology to make sure it is benign. She thinks it is; she just wants to confirm.

Just thought I would let you all know.

I thought of another question. How long do fibroids take to develop? Mine must have grown rather quickly, fibroid or not, as I had a normal ultrasound in January for an unrelated issue.

Thanks again in advance,

K

One more question:

Is it common to experience extreme fatigue from a fibroid? The fatigue is so bad it is interfering with my ability to concentrate and reason. I constantly have to lie down and rest/sleep.

Please advise.

Thank you,

K.

I would like to add some more details:

I am a 34 y/o female w/history of polycystic ovary syndrome. First menstrual period was at age 11. I have never been pregnant.

The pain is in the lower part of the abdomen and in the pelvis.

Also, I would like to ask one more question:

--> The ultrasound found minimal free fluid in the pelvis (I forget where exactly). Is this common with fibroids?
