Unexplained Change in Hair Texture

Are there any reasons why a woman's hair would suddenly change in texture (hair that was medium weight and somewhat straight and wavy is now lightweight and kinks up at the roots even when wet/damp).  When blown out, crimps up instantly with or without humidity.

I had breast cancer in 2009 at age 46, pre-menopausal, (ER+, PR+, HER2-) no lymph node involvement and did NOT require chemo or radiation.  Had bilateral with reconstruction (for which I had 3 surgeries in the past 12 months).   Had taken birth control pills for about 30 years, but stopped taking them at diagnosis. Took tamoxifen for about 8 weeks last summer but was taken off of it because it was affecting a fibroid condition.

The fibroid has become very bad in recent months and we are now considering embolization.  I just had a complete blood work up done and was prescribed iron pills to combat borderline anemia.  All else was normal, including my thyroid.

No one seems to be able to explain the change in my hair texture and it is very disconcerting as it happened very suddenly.  Have not changed diet nor started any new medications.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My hair seems to change with hormonal fluctuations. When I became pregnant, I swear my part moved over like a couple of inches! I did also notice texture changes (thicker). My guess is it's thyroid related (for me), because I had alot of hair loss prior to learning I was hypothyroid. Now that I'm on Synthroid it's growing back! Do you know the result of your thyroid (TSH) test? I only ask because sometimes doctors says it's normal, when it isn't. (The labs seem to still be using old normal values. Anything over 3 should be addressed if you're also having symptoms.) I hope you get it figured out. I totally understand how disconcerting it is!

lovely* hormones can be to blame...    * = sarcasm. haha.

I went from having nice straight hair, hit puberty and then it went to curly hair. I don't really like it, but I'm used to it. It's been curly for a long time now, though it has gotten curlier. I just think you're in the menopausal area and so your hormones are changing, and now it's changed your hair texture.
