I have depression, but nearly every month in the week leading up to my menstruation, my depression symptoms go down dramatically. It's a wonderful week were it isn't a struggle to do things I want to do. I get many of the physical symptoms of PMS, but instead of a negative emotional state, I'm propelled into a positive state. It's like my depression is cured for one week every month.
Has anyone had similar experiences?
Does anyone know what hormones are likely in play? I know that estrogen and serotonin production is supposed to go down, which would then also cause oxytocin levels to decrease, but the effects I'm feeling are as if all three are increasing instead. That shouldn't be possible, right?
Does anyone know how I could go about figuring out what's going on hormonally so I could potentially extend it's effects beyond a week?
