I had the Mirena IUD placed in March 08 when daughter was 6 months old. Continued to have regular light periods until removal in 7/10. I was also told by OBGYN that I could start TTC immediatly but to notify him if AF did regulate on its own within 8-9 months. Here are my stats so far:

Removal:7/8/10
Removal bleeding:7/10-7/15
AF:7/28

Waiting for August AF which is due around 8/25. Only difference in AF now is length. Used to be 28 days on the dot. First AF since removal was 30 days. Some women say it takes much longer to get first AF which affects ovulation. I have also read that miscarriage is common when conception happens prior to first AF or during first cycle after removal. I have started charting Ovulation and CM changes. Tried to BD alot around O this month as this is my first month post removal TTC. Best of luck to all TTC and hope this helps some.

hey i have the copper coil in for about three years now i got it in after the birth of my daughter, me and my boyfriend have decided we want more children so i have decided i should get the coil taken out. myperiods have been really heavy on the coil and some times i will have a little bit of bleeding two days before im supposed to get my period. i have learned alot from this site about the affects after you get the coil out, when i got the copper coil put in the docter never told me half of this stuff that you guys have. the only things i want to know is if it is really painfull getting it removed? and how long after it was removed did any of you guys get pregnant? i hope you guys can answer my questions for me thanks alot x

I have more or less the same problem.  My doctor told me that it was normal for my period not to come back for up to a year, which I think is BS.  The GYN I saw to have it removed said that it should come back at about 3-6 months.  I'm thinking thats still crazy but you can't really fight with them.  I know the maker of the IUDs say that you should be able to get pregnant as easy as someone who was not using any form of birth control.  Good luck.
