unusual discharge

my last period was january 1st-5th, it was regular for me which means, i had intense cramps for the first 2 days, starting with a heavy flow gradually decreasing to almost nothing by the 3rd day and then brown spotting the 4th day. i usually run on a 28 day cycle. just over a week ago my boyfriend of over a year and i had sex and my vagina had a foul fishy smell and then my labia became swollen after..indicating some sort of infection which i chose to ignore, then i started having light pink spotting for a couple days, the next 2 days everything seemed back to normal, but then yesterday when i went to the bathroom there was brown discharge when i wiped, and today it is darker/thicker and a larger amount. ive been expecting my period for a couple days now, i took a preg. test last night and this morning both with negetive results. perhaps it is too early to detect the hormone, or maybe it is the effects of the infection. just wanted to hear some thoughts, but i am planning to see a doctor tomorrow because im starting to worry.

yeah i knew i had an ifection when i noticed the smell and inflammation, but i was just confused about the blood tinged discharge, and why my period was late..or if in fact the blood tinged discharge was my period..but then why was my period so irregular this month...and did the infection have something to do with it or am i pregnant? but i just went to the dr, my preg. test came up negetive, and he said i didnt have any unusual discharge, just old blood, and wasnt able to give me any answers about the cause. he did give me a prescription for bv but told me to hold off on taking it until i find out my results...still confused about the dried up blood, but happy to know im not pregnant!

Fishy smell usually means a bacterial infection of the vagina (BV). Not that it's always the cause - your doctor will be able to tell you for sure. I just went to my Dr.'s on Monday for the same exact problems and that's what I turned up with. Then again, I've had it before so I kind of knew. I get a fishy odor, pink or brown discharge and sometimes a very sensitive vagina. This time I also had slight itching on my labia minora.  It's a pain in the butt!
