my hair is falling out!

My hair is falling out, not in clumps but really thinning. It all started when the scalp at the back of my head got irritated and itchy.  My GP said it isn't alopecia as it is not falling out in clumps. I'm really scared. Can anyone help me with what this could be?

Had a doctors appointment today, she said that I my scalp has cleared up & my hair is falling out because I'm over thinking it there are no bald spots and it could be down to hormones, she also said my thyroid result was just outside the normal range but I would be re-tested in April.

My thyroid levels have always been in "normal range" and are most definately the root of all my problems. If your levels are off I suggest you look at these links which show symptoms of a wonky thyroid. If you have these symptoms take the list back to your dr and maybe ask to see an endo.

Try to give your skin at least 2 weeks to recover, nothing works overnight and it may take a while to repair the damage you currently have.

Hi, I'm 16 and my thyroid test came back imbalanced. It could be stress as I have been getting more stressed the more I think about my hair. It is not falling out in clumps and I received shampoos and a mousse for my hair to see if that helped the scalp, however it did not really help.  Thank you for your comment.

Go back to your doctor and have him/her a full blood work to see whats up and take it from there. It could be something small such as vitamin deficiency where a supplement will help, but it could be something such as a thryoid issue that needs attention. I also definitely agree with finding a natural shampoo. If you do not want to make your own and do not mind spending a little extra money, www.****.com has all natural shampoos, conditioners, lotions, soaps, etc. Good luck!

Has your dr ruled out anemia, thyroid problems, other vitamin deficiencies, and allergies?

If he hasn't I suggest you ask to get tested for Free t3 and t4 as well as the standard TSH. These will be more accurate than TSH alone at telling you what your thyroid is doing.

If your a vegetarian or vegan I suggest you talk to your dr about Vitamin B and iron deficiencies and see if this could be a possibility.

Lastly is your scalp unhappy? Most commercial shampoos have tons of chemicals that many people don't react well to. I suggest you look into a natural shampoo and see if it helps. Natural shampoos are expensive so here is a site that shows how to make homemade shampoo.
