Missed period for 4 months, came back really heavy

I got my first period February 2nd of this year at age 13. I missed 4 months and got it this month on July 4th. It's still going on but it's really heavy. Is it normal? What should I do?

Once you've started your period you should start having regular visits with a GYN anyway. My first few periods were dark and dry and not what I expected at all but after that they were normal. Every young lady has a different story. Your GYN can answer all your questions and supply you with information you may need and of course there is good information on the internet for young teens on the subject. Don't be afraid to ask anything, we are all here to learn.

It's normal to have irregular periods when you first start, and even throughout some years after. I started my period when I was 13, I am now 20 and they just barely started to become regular. I would go 4-5 months without one then when it did come, it was the worst pain I would go through. But now, I am pregnant, so after the baby is born I am going to possibly deal with irregular periods again. But yes, as specialmom said, talk to your mom, sister, older female about it, go into a doctor and get checked out.

Hi there.  Well, it is normal to have irregular periods in the early years of getting your period.  I think 4 months is a pretty long time though.  No way you could have been pregnant is there and that this is actually a miscarriage and not a period?  Otherwise, having a heavy flow after 4 months is normal too.

I would absolutely talk to your mom about this or an older sister or aunt or cousin.  If your mom is worried, then a doctor's visit is in order.  No big deal, doctors deal with this stuff all the time.  A period more than every 4 months would be much better for you (many doctors allow a period to go three months before becoming concerned.  But as you are so young and really just started menstruating, you could just be getting going too.

But it sure helps to talk to a trusted adult for real time advice and the ability to follow up with a doctor if warranted.

wish you luck.
