Does Hypothyroid cause pain?

In 1970 I had a Hyperthyroid, treated pharmisuically.  1979 treated with radioactive iodine, very good results.  In 1988 I went Hypo.  Was managed very well until 2 years ago.  I started with fatigue, memory problems, aching all over.  I started to get a lot of fasitis, tendonities, muscle spasms and the like.  Should mention in July 2008 the wrong strength of synthoid was given to me...was on 175mg but got 75mg for 3 months at the end of the 3 months my TSH was 15.61, in Sept. 2009 it was 2.46, in Dec of 2009 it went to 0.08.  I was with an Endo doc during this time.  I have since changed doc's to and Internest.  He put me on 150mg once aday with cytomel 2 times a day.  I am still very fatigued and I hurt a lot.  On March 2009 I went hiking (which I have always done alot of) and ended up with tendoitis in my foot.  No injury, it just happened.  This is Aug. 2 and I am still dealing with that.  Today as I sit here I feel like I am spasming in both sides of my back, from just above the waist to just below the hip joint (I have trouble sitting, it feels like I am driving my hip joint upward).  Is this thyroid problems or not?

Yes, Free T3 has been done routinely.  I will be receiving the most current in a day or two.  Before that the most recent TSH was 0.08 with the range of 0.03 to 0.32-5.00 ulu/ml.  The Free T4 was 1.28 with a range of 0.58-1.64.  Free T3 was 2.2 with a range of 2.5-3.9 pg/ml.  The Cytomel was JUST increased to twice aday due to the most recent T3.  I got a voice mail with the results so I don't know the numbers yet.  I am going to the doctor today though, about this back...the pain is bad!

Guess I didn't mention I have Graves dx...

I have Hashimotos and Hypothyriodism......i must say i do often get body aches when i am tired......which is most of the time....it usually goes away with rest........mostly my neck shoulders and arms will hurt.......

But i have been told it could be realted to another autoimmune disease....i really think its the Hypo though...

What tests are being run besides TSH?  Are they checking your Free T4 and Free T3?  If so, what are the results, along with the ranges?  It's very hard to comment without other test results and it seems unlikely that you would be put on cytomel without a Free T3 test.

All that said - hypothyroidism CAN cause joint/muscle aches/pain.  I have quite a bit of pain, mostly in my knees and sometimes hips.  I also go through periods where my entire body hurts - including my hair......... I also have a lot of muscle cramping, especially in my feet and legs and sometimes in my fingers and neck/jaw area, but I'm not sure if that is thyroid related or not.

I'm sure some of the other members will jump in and offer comments also, but I'm relatively sure they will all ask about other testing done - results, along with lab ranges since the range depends on the lab.
