My 9 yr old son started crying this week, pretty much every evening and doesn't seem to know why. He just all of the sudden gets weepy and sometimes sobbing, and can't seem to stop. This happened in the spring during school, and he said he just felt like he was going to cry, so he removed himself from the classroom before he cried in front of the class. It happened 2 or 3 times, and then stopped. So, now several months later it is happening again, and has happened every night Sunday through Thursday. I have talked with him about what is causing it, he says he doesn't know why. We have asked about people who have hurt him, threatened him, kids bullying, etc and he denies all of that. He doesn't watch scary movies, doesn't seem to have nightmares, etc. He is an otherwise healthy young man, has friends, gets along with others, no changes in our family or situation, has interest in activities etc. He is slightly underweight. His diet could be better. He eats a variety of foods, but would prefer to eat sugary foods, soda, snacks etc. But will eat pretty much anything we put in front of him.
Do you have any suggestions? Could it be hormones? Vitamin deficiency? We are worried about him and what could be causing it. In the mean time, I have made an appointment with our pediatrician.
Thank you for any insight you may have.
