I too tried Coconut oil off and on and every time I used it, and ran I had bloody stools after or during the run. I stopped using it and the issue went away.
My situation is same, taking coconut oil in the morning causing bloody stool. Not sure why. I if stop taking coconut oil my stool will be normal immediately
My husband always has bright red blood in his stool if he eats coconut oil. Stopped and started several times with 6 months between this last time and within the first day of eating coconut oil the blood was back. It's definitely the coconut oil. Would sure like to know what is up. We have no insurance so we can't afford the colonoscopy.
Hi! I discovered a very similar problem late last year. I’d made a vegan toffee for a Halloween party, and it was made of coconut sugar, coconut cream, and the coconut fat from the top of a can of coconut milk. I’m not much of a coconut person, so it was rarely something I ate. I’d never had a sensitivity to it before this party, though I’d eaten coconut milk in soups on occasion. The toffee I made was very runny, so I kept the leftovers in my freezer, and since I loved the taste I ate a few pieces everyday for a week. After about 3 days I began having bloody stool and frequent diarrhea. I went to a GI specialist, an allergist, and my normal GP. I have stool samples taken, was given suppositories for hypotheical internal hemmeroids, and finally had a small scope test. All of them told me I had a perfectly normal, if inflamed GI tract. So, feeling hopeless (and still eating that co conut toffee on occasion), I went to see my dietician. She gave me handouts on low fiber diets that benefit people with proctitis and colitis, and on one of the handouts I saw a few foods listed in a box labeled “NOT to eat”: coconut and avocado. I’d known from childhood that avocado would give me diarrhea (so I never ate it again), but coconut was news to me. I immediately asked her why those 2 foods were lumped together in the same box, and she explained that it’s the FATS in both that some people cannot digest. So, even though they’re considered “ healthy fats” and they’re very in vogue these days, I would avoid both like the plague! And check ingredients on packaged foods! I know some movie theaters serve popcorn in coconut oil, and just the other day I found coconut oil in packaged hot chocolate mix. It can be anywhere! Now that I’ve stopped my body has returned to normal, but I’ve had uncle incident where I ingested coconut without knowing it untilafterward, and sure enough 2 days later I had bloody stool again. Just remember, no one here is a doctor; you should definitely get lab work done and see a professional if this continues!
I have not heard of this before, I think I would ask a nutrionist about this, or a naturopath.
I'm taking coconut oil and I have bloody stool too but I must say that it is only when I drink alcohol (pure whisky or rhum).
Be sure not to but your coconut oil anywhere. It must be pure virgin coconut oil. Once I tried to drink coconut oil from an indian store here in France (city of Lieusaint) and it was not good because I felt slightly bad when I drunk it.
I agree. The body needs fat and needs a healthy fat as well. Many conventional doctors might believe it to be unhealthy for the heart, because of old out-dated studies about coconut oil that had been altered from its natural state, but I've never heard of it being the cause of intestinal issues.
I'm certain that the above comment is correct, that this is a coincidence. You definitely need to call your doctor right away.
Hi and sorry your having bloody stools. I haven't been able to find any info so far on coconut oil causing bloody stools I have seen a few that say it is good for the colon. If I were you I would go to the doctor and see if you have hemorroids or some other reason for it and ask the doctor about it. If not you need to get a colonoscopy to make sure you don't have polyps. I think it is a coincidence that you have the bloody stools off and on. I wouldn't take a chance like that.
take care,
