Test Result Advice

Hi,

I am a 51 year old female and I have been on 15MG Methimazole for the over 2 months.  My recent test result is as follows:

TSH                             1.2              Range  0.45 - 4.5
T4, Free                       1.18            Range 0.82 - 1.77
Glucose                      99                 Range 65 - 99
Bilirubin, Total               2.2   High    Range 0.0-1.2
Triiodothyronine (T3)  67      Low     Range 71-180
T3, Free                        2.5               Range 2.0 - 4.4

I am sleeping a little better (5-6 hours intermittently) , but still wake up at 2-3 am with difficulty falling back to sleep again. I am wondering when my body will resume back to normal sleeping?

I will be seeing my endocrinologist end of this week, and would like to know if there is anything I should be concern with and if I need to ask any questions.

Thanks!

It looks like your dose of Methimazole might be a little high, making your actual thyroid hormone levels too low.  Both your Free T4 and Free T3 are lower than most of us prefer to have them in order to be comfortable.  Being hypo can cause some of the same symptoms as being hyper, including sleep disturbance.

My Endo has adjusted to 10MG a day instead of 15MG.  She said she will check my blood work in 6 weeks.  Anything earlier would not be accurate.  She did say if I don't feel well, I should contact her.
That sounds like a reasonable plan of action.  I'm not sure she's entirely correct on the idea that any blood work prior to 6 weeks would be inaccurate, but standard practice is to retest at 6 weeks in order to give things a chance to settle after the dosage change.
