Weird headache for the last month

Hello,

I'm a 38 y/o male, 6'2, 165 lbs, white. My diet is decent (I do have a sweet tooth, though not daily), I only drink casually on weekends (2-3 drinks), and am active (I run about 90-120km per month).

In the last month or so, I've been getting a localized headache around my right eyebrow - perhaps just above it and near the bridge of the nose, sometimes near the eye . It almost only happens upon exertion (running, weight lifting). It slowly gets better when these activities stop, though may linger in a lesser form here and there, for the rest of the day on and off.

It's annoying, but not super painful. Like a dull throbbing at its worst.

It's hard to pinpoint when it started exactly, though I remember noticing it for the first time a day or two after a weightlifting session maybe a month ago.

I stopped exercising for over a week, but as soon as I resumed, so did this.
I'm in training now for the spring running season, so would really prefer not to stop running and exercising if possible.

Any thoughts? Thank you!

Agree that this sounds like an occipital headache. Occipital nerves carry messages to your brain from your scalp and those nerves can become inflamed. It causes swelling and irritation around the nerve, then there is the pain you describe. I'm a big fan of massage therapy for this. Heat helps. Stretching. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/23072-occipital-neuralgia

If after exertion, it may be that you’re working out with adhesions in your SCM and/or other Occipital muscles.
