Mistake 4 Days Ago

Hi- I made a huge mistake last weekend. I had unprotected vaginal and oral sex with woman I did not know. I was under the influence of alcohol and I’m struggling with the shame and guilt. I’ve already reached out to a therapist and substance abuse counselor since this is so out of character for me. Should I go and get tested immediately and then test again? I’m planning on scheduling my physical along with a full panel test for next week. I unfortunately had too travel for work which has been a nightmare. The anxiety and stress is making it very hard to make it through the days.

Unprotected vagina is a less than one percent chance risk. So, over 99 percent chance there was no transmission. Unprotected oral sex is zero risk. A one time event is extremely low risk. I would wait until day 28 and take a 4th generation Duo test. You only need to test one time if you get a negative. It's conclusive from that day on. Also, all the other stuff you added doesn't matter. I don't care about kissing or using your hands those are no risk (only risks are unprotected vaginal or anal sex or sharing iv needles to inject drugs- air and saliva inactivate the virus). trouble penetrating so it wasn't a lot, just even less than 1 percent risk.

If you have a regular partner, wear a condom until 28 day testing.

I also wanted to add that I was a bit too big for her, so there was very little full penetration. We mostly kissed, I stimulated her with my hands etc.

Can you ask her if she has been tested? If she has a negative, that would cut your chances of hiv to unprotected she did after the test.
Unfortunately, we didn’t share contact information. Should I test for other STI’s in the interim? Thank you
The chances of getting HIV from a one-time vaginal encounter with a person who has a detectable viral load (not on meds) is about 0.06% - in other words, even in that scenario, there's a 99.94% of not contracting HIV. Unless you live in an area where HIV has a high prevalence, the odds of your partner being HIV+, combined with the odds of getting HIV from a brief, one-time encounter are almost zero.

We only do HIV in this forum, but the STDs forum will be happy to help: https://www.medhelp.org/forums/STDs-STIs/show/98
Thank You. I’m a complete wreck at the moment. The guilt and shame are truly nothing I ever want to feel again. My plan is to get tested today and then again on 4/1, since it will have been 28 days.
Hi. I tested again 30 days after the initial incident. The test was a HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab screen (4th generation) - it came back as non-reactive.  Should I test again after 3 months? My doctor mentioned potentially testing again. Not sure if that's conservative or not. Still a bit terrified, but trying to learn from this experience.
There is NO reason to test again. No one who is knowledgeable recommends testing at 3 months anymore - that is outdated by about 10 years.

You don't have HIV. Move on from this event.
Understood. Thank you.
