You could be suffering a common cold. Lots of germs out there can cause these symptoms. I'd try mucinex which thins the secretions so they don't become viscous and gump up which is when we get secondary infections. The secretions pass through your lungs rather than staying there festering and the same for your sinuses. Cough medicine should be used sparingly because it it prevents you from coughing, the musous also sits. Remember that coughing is a way to move mucous out. I do understand, though, as coughing is abrasive to the system and that becomes irritated and people then end up coughing for awhile due to just that. So, maybe just use the cough medicine at night.
Allergies often have 'itchiness' to them. Itchy eyes, back of throat. And over the counter allergy medicine works pretty fast. You could try and see if it makes any difference but I really think you basically have a cold.
Drink lots of tea. Take ibuprofen or tylenol if you can. And mucinex is highly recommended. Hope you feel better soon
While your 5-day cough, runny nose, tiredness, and occasional sneezing sound like a common cold, it's always best to be safe. Delsym and saline spray are good choices, but consider adding pain relievers if needed. Focus on rest, fluids, and monitor your symptoms. If they worsen, don't improve in a week, or you develop a fever, see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
*Update* After following GuitarRox suggestions it still didn't help and
my ribs were hurting from coughing. Saw my doctor yesterday and he Rx'd
me Benzonatate and Amoxicillin and coughing is already almost gone.
