5 year old son is scared of a lot of things

My 5 year old son is scared of storms so bad that when the wind starts to pick up and blow he keeps running to the window and yelling " is it going to storm " then he cries and runs through the house..  My husband and I don't know what to do about it I am scared of storms but not like that..   Also my son is scared of fire works and then just some more small things.   He was not like this a couple of months ago it just started when his father came back home from a work trip and we had to move..   I really don't know what else to do with him.  I am scared for him and how this is effecting us..   Tonight was the 4th and we were going to the fire show behind are house but my son decided he didn't want to go and he wanted to go to bed instead and that was at 7pm so we let him go to bed and did not get to go see the fire works..  I also have a 2 year old that is not scared of things like this and I am scared that my son will make her scared of this stuff because of the way he acts.  To me it seems like he gets in a panic stage, but if anyone can help please give me some advice.

He's 5 year old so get a nice book on the weather and  information on how Thunder and Lightening Happen, sit him down and explain to him how it  happens with the Aid of the Book.Ha anyone in the Family made him react this way by saying they are scared of it and he is copying and doing the same thing,Alot of small kids dont like the Bangs in Fireworks, just let him be like that ,I would keep him with you but just let him read or do something else its not a punishement its his choice,
