palpatations

I am 50 years old. I am in pretty good shape. I am in college right now taking up medical studies. Lately I ahve been getting palpitations during the day and mostly at night. I had them befor on and off, then they stopped. Now I am getting them consistantly. I checked my pulse and it was actually 114 rt per min. I ca't sleep at night cause these palpatations keep me up. I don't smoke. But I do drink coffee, at least about a cup and a half maybe.

Concerned

I agree with the above poster....caffeine, lack of sleep, large meals, OTC cold medications, sugar are just some of the common triggers for palpitations.  That said, mention it to your doctor on your next visit just to be absolutely sure there is not an underlying reason for these new symptoms.

Good luck with school!!

Stop all caffeine.  Also as odd as this may sound, I get palpitations with sugar consumption, so you might want to cut that out as well.  And I get them particularly bad with chocolate.  So I stay away from all those substances and voila! no more palpitations.
