questionable behavior in 1 yr old female

my daughter has the same hip thrusting, or back arching behavior as described by another lady in these blogs. i've seen 2 doctors one didn't know what to make of it (and still took my co-pay) and another chalked it up to masturbation. i can't believe that she's getting anything pleasurable from these experiences though because they seem to be pretty painful for her. they just happen out of the blue, initially they began in her car seat and high chair, now it doesn't matter what she's doing or where she's at and when they come on they can completely change her mood from good to bad.

i feel helpless, and the professionals i'm supposed to be able to turn to for help are clueless (by admission). can someone please tell me what i can do for my baby girl?

i can tell you that these occurances can last a few minutes or a few seconds - she often grits her gums so bad they can bleed and she feels hot almost sweaty afterwards. (no it's not seizures i've looked into that as well already)

most everywhere i look online says this behavior is pretty common, if so, you could have fooled me. i've never seen another child do this. my daughter will do it in the buggy at the shopping market, and trust me it's not as though it's a behavior that goes unnoticed.

This discussion is related to strange baby hip thrusting??.

My youngest would sort of do this when she was in her carseat or the highchair. I think she didn't like the confinement. She would do this when she wasn't confined, I think because it was just a reaction she learned since I would normally pick her up or take her out of the highchair when she started doing it. It became the "reaction" to being uncomfortable in other situations.

no, she isn't in day care, we went back to the dr today & he took a urine sample, we're going to see if maybe it's a female infection or something. i'm very converned and would love more imput from any one that has experienced this . . .

I dont think this behavior is pretty common and I would certainly look for answers why it is happening, is she is day care , could she be copying it from someone else, any siblings ?
