hsv 1 genital recurrence

Hi Dr. Hansfield,

Just wanted to get your thoughts on genital hsv 1 recurrences. I've read these are minimal if not zero. If a recurrence does occur, where would it occur and would it feel similar to the first outbreak but to a lesser degree? I think I might be having a recurrence but can't tell. It is also not in the same area as my first outbreak and does not necessarily hurt. But rather itch.

And if I have and a viral culture test, is there any point to me getting a blood test? Are culture test ever inaccurate? And which blood test is the most accurate?

Thank you.

You can do that in the community forums, but in the expert ones, they close after a certain amount of time has passed.  Also, the docs won't answer your questions unless you've paid.

Hey thanks! I thought maybe I could add on to my previous thread with Dr. Hansfield. Guess that window closed. I'll check out the community forum.

Dr. Handsfield doesn't respond in this forum, and it looks like you posted to a closed discussion.

If you want his response, you need to go to the experts forum and click on the green "Post a Question", and go through the steps.  It costs $15.

If you'd rather not pay, you can go to our peer herpes forum, and ask there.  There are terrific people in that forum who can help you for free.  See the link at the top of this page in the community description.
