Comment about flushing pills and the water supply.

I read a comment recently in another post talking about how flushing pills has a detrimental effect on the water supply.   I just wanted to respond by saying that I and am heavily involved in the design and operation of treatment facilities and that there is is almost no possibility whatsoever that flushed drugs will make it back into the environment in any quantity that could be considered damaging or even remotely dangerous.

It is true that in some large cities that they will sample the main (but raw and untreated) sewer lines to get a general idea of what the drug usage is for a part of a city.  This is well before the sewage even begins to get treated however.  I won't bore anyone with the details but I will say that the average homeowner who fertilizes their lawn with nitrates is doing a MUCH greater amount of environmental damage that someone who flushes a couple of hundred Oxy's down the toilet.

So by all means, if you feel the need flush those little soul wreckers to your hearts content.  I did it myself once.  They will NOT come back to you in your faucet or your pond.

about a month and a half ago the newpaper from where i live said they found like 80 pharm pills in the water supply they havnt tested it in a long time and it came up dunno how they got there its pretty weird

Go ahead and flush away!  No worries.  Don't think about it.  Just go do it!!  

Oh and a word of advice.  Start the flush a split second before you dump the pills.  
I just dumped over 100 oxy into the toilet and then flushed a few seconds later.  I guess the coating got sticky cause they all just stuck together and glued themselves to the bowl as a clump.  I kind of freaked out a bit.  Little F#####s seemed to be trying to hang on.  LOL  I had to sweep them loose with a toilet brush.  Very anticlimactic moment.  LOL :-)...

But the best/smartest/toughest thing I've ever done and definately most worthwhile.

I have been fighting the knowledge that I have over a hundred vic's here to flush......

then I read a bit ago that I should NOT do that.
now, I guess I can.....sigh.
