I got teary eyed watching that video....if ppl were more like that dog who saved his buddy what a wonderful world this would be.I've been in2 greyhound adoption since 1993 and have 3 cats from the Humane Society. My one kitty Guillian now 6 was found out in the winter declawed and trying to nurse her 4 kittens in a malnourished state.Pits are grey8t dogs, intelligent loving......there are no bad dogs...just bad breeding and bad ppl who make the dog bad!Dog is God spelled backwards!:)

I know exactly what you mean about seeing so many of that breed in shelters.Thats the case where I live too.Problem is so many of these dogs are being breed for the sole purpose of fighting them that when Animal Control does step in and take them out of that enviroment and place them in shelters..They're just too vicious
,because of how they were raised,to be adopted out. It's so sad.We have one 'no kill' shelter in our area left, and all you see is pits...Sadly most of these dogs will spend the rest of their years locked in a cage without a loving family to enjoy all the love that they have to offer, had they been raised by responsible owners.
I think there needs to be a lot stricter penalties imposed on the people who breed these dogs just to fight or to use as some sort of weapon. My dog is such a loving animal. We've had her since she was 6 weeks old.Shes great with my kids and my grand kids.Shes obedient and protective when she needs to be,but shes about 90 lbs now and all muscle. The thing is when a pit bites someone,it's gonna cause a lot of harm. They're big, powerful dogs, thats why these irresponsible owners have NO business owning or breeding dogs like this, any dogs for that matter. You have to be held accountable when owning any animal, especially a larger animal, who does have the ability to really hurt someone. They say children live what they learn,so do animals. If they are not taking care of properly and not shown love and affection they have no idea how to give it either. The sad part is it's the animal that pays the price, and all too often an innocent child or adult and the owners who have taught the dog to be so vicious often times only gets a slap on the wrist.

I love Chihuahuas' too,but I don't think Alleiah{my pit} would take to kindly to sharing the spot light here with any animal.Shes been an only pet for 6 years, and shes used to being the queen around here.LOL Thats actually what the kids call her...'Queen Alleiah"..LOL  Of course her and I have a different opinion on that matter...I tell her there is only room for one queen in this household, and I'M it...she'll have to settle for princess.LOL    Peace...Kim

You added another dog...so did I. LOL
I help with Chihuahua rescue and I have added an 8 year old Chi to our family. She was on her last day at one of the animal control shelters. She also had horrible teeth and had been breed many times. She was just under 4 pounds when I got her...Not now, she's gaining weigh has all vet work and sitting in my lap passing gas as I type:-)
Yep, Dogs are the best souls in the world.

Yes Kim, Pitts do get a bad rep. but here in Atlanta it is the number one dog we see in shelters and the amount of pitts being breed irresponsibly is unreal. I do think there should be some law or something to monitor the breeding, sales, and adoptions of these dogs. After the Michael Vick mess it's cool to own a Pitt and it makes me sick.
I do love the breed of dog they are Beautiful, loyal, protective but not a good match with three Chihuahuas :-)

I broke down and watched it...that stuff bothers me too.I cried and then I went and hugged my dog and gave her a treat. That saddest part to me is the dog went to save the other dogs life and not one person driving on that highway made an attempt to stop.I know stopping on a highway is dangerous, but I would have found a way, some way to pull my car over to the shoulder and at least try and do something.
I have a pit bull and those dogs tend to get a bad wrap.I don't think the breed of the dog should be blamed,I place the blame on the irresponsible owners, that have no business having a pet in the first place. My dog is a loving, friendly member of our family. She would lay down her life to protect anyone of us in this house, now thats love.
Do we know if the dog that was hit lived and if the dog that rescued the other one has a home?

No Lady_B you are not silly......it is indescribable because you just witnessed an act of humanity though this Animal........it disrupts the boundaries of nature and humanity.  Almost frightening....I had to watch it 3 times for my brain to absorb what I was seeing.

It is what you saw.....as disturbing as it may be......it was an extraordinary act of courage caught on tape and for sure going to be studied, as it kind of rattles the laws of nature and hopefully changes the way we think about animals.....I hope.

Ok, I will stop on my bandwagon.......:-X

Aww. Don't messy face cry. I watched that and it made me feel so...well, it's kind of indescribable really. It just makes me think. I mean that poor dog, but seeing another animal even try to save it...wow...to me this sort of proves that animals have deep emotions just like us. Well, I think so anyway, maybe I'm just silly...

OMG......I SO cannot watch things like this....I can't even begin to describe how "disturbed" this makes me feel.  Ya gotta tell me that this poor dog lived and that the dog's buddy, the one who rescued or tried to make the rescue has a home?

Good Lord man, if anyone wants to mess with me, just show me stuff like this........sigh...

Ditto ...... Dogs are the best !

I would like to announce that we have a new member to our family.  She is a little white poodle, that I almost ran over on election night. My sister Dee was nice enough to take her home until we found her owners. One month later no one has claimed this poor thing.  She must be 600 years old, and you could smell her breath from a mile away.  I was suppose to take her to the dog pound, but she went to the vet instead. lol   He pulled all her teeth but 5, and treated her eye infection.  She came to life after that. She must have been in such pain. Her name is now Libby and she ours now. lol
