i am not a big fan of conventions, most conventions except for this one out west, did not have any activities for children, sometimes we have a sitter for the entire weekend and then stay at the hotel for the convention but it gets really expensive doing that
the best speaker i have heard at a convention was a school teacher from cali. during her story she brought out the book " veelveteen rabbit"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"
"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."
"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.
"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."
"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"
"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand
then she realted this to getting clean, when we are using we are not the "real us" when we ask for help in the program other members start to love us until we feel real again, and sometimes being real hurts, we no longer have the drugs to cover up our feelings, we have to feel everything thats going on in our lives and deal with it, at the time of this convention i was dealing with loosing my hair from medication i was taking, when i heard her say
""Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off""
i was so inspired by this, she also explained that it takes time to become a better person, just as long as it took the rabbit to become real, very little happens in a few days or months, becoming real and getting clean can also hurt at times, so we should make sure we surround ourselves with kind, loving people who know what it takes to be clean and help others be real,
HI mikie!!!!.......good to see you back!!
Hey, how ironic. I just heard on the news today that California...(LA to be exact) is having a Medical Marijuana festival today!.......I thought it was a joke......nope.
