Thanks for the feedback!! Sure hope it picks up momentum where I live and they offer a screening.....if not, maybe the documentary will be available at a later date~
I saw it last night and it was awesome!! They gave out pamphlets on how to get involved with recovery advocacy; the pamphlets and movie really clarified how you can do it without breaking any of the 12 Step Traditions.
The movie also gave some great history about efforts to remove the stigma of addiction in the 70's and how all the work was undone by Reagan in his "War on Drugs" and "Just Say No" .
I really hope this movement gains momentum.
Clean, the book, Broken is an unbelievable story! I've read it twice. I strongly recommend it. Let me know what you think. Also, another great book is Kristen Johnston's book, Guts. Another amazing read!
Absolutely, I will post about it. I think they've been trying to get this film out for awhile; glad it's finally here!!
We did it through Gather to get the screening. Spread the word at meetings and with Facebook friends in recovery. We didn't think we were going until this weekend because there weren't enough people. Getting the word out at meetings is what made the difference.
I'm so excited to be going; hope you can make it happen in your area!
WOW....just WOW me....this looks GREAT!!!!!! Thanks K for sharing it.
I'm excited about this......or how the world NEEDS this message!!!
I did some lookin around myself and found a place I could enter my email, zip code, etc. and "be notified" if there is a screening in my area. There's a "kickstarter" campaign going on as well. Funds are the problem it looks like and the reason for the "private screening" deal. If we can get the word out....and enough people in our particular area show interest in seeing it.....they'll sponsor a screening. From what I read, it depends on how many people will show, what the theater's minimums are, the $$ of course, and they do have a FB page up, too, called The Anonymous People.
You are SO dadgum lucky K for having a screening already in your area! I'm jealous...LOL
In addition to Kristen Johnston's participation, I read that William Cope Moyers is a participant also (and quite a few others). Sonrissa (I think it was you MissRissa) told us about a book by him called "Broken" by him....I ordered it off of Amazon but haven't read it yet. Hope this spreads like wildfire.....it's SO IMPORTANT...and the trailer looks FAB!! Thanks again K...I never would have known:):)
I am going to see it; there's a screening in my area on Dec 2. My boyfriend found the screening on Facebook. I know we had to order the tickets in advance and there had to be enough people going for them to show it. The screening just met the quota over the weekend.
I think it should be showed to a much larger audience!!
Hey- I was wondering how you were going to see this? Is there a screening around your area or something? Just curious, because I seen on the website the movie is only showing in select cities... privately. Just wondering. Thanks!!
For some reason, the site you posted isn't working (?)... I searched on YouTube and found it there. WOW! What an encouraging documentary!!!! Thanks for letting everyone know about this- if there is any site that has members whom would appreciate it, this would be it!!!
I've read excerpts from her book; I def need to check it out. I have always liked her; I love her self deprecating sense of humor.
I hope you are feeling better.
Thank you for posting this! I just watched the trailer. It looks great! I will definitely check out this movie!
Oh, by the way, I read Kristen Johnston's book: Guts. It's about her own personal story of addiction. I highly recommend it. It's a very great read.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing that!
And after the screening....I SURE hope you'll post about it...Please?
