What are some of the fist things you would want to do while in office ?
Immediately I would put huge taxes on our companies shipping jobs overseas.
Come up with a decent energy policy that creates jobs and makes us energy independent.
Get us out of Iraq...safely...
Start working on healthcare. With the debt we have it would be difficult to put it into effect right away, but I would be getting my ducks in a row.
The more I think about what we have spent in Iraq, on this presidential campaign, and on bailing out wallstreet. It could have paid for every American to have decent healthcare.
I would secure our borders immediately.

There is a reason for separation of state and church. If our government was run by religion we would be like Iran, Iraq, Palestine etc etc.
There is absolutly a place for religion, but not in the government, and there is a difference between religion and morals. We of course want our leaders to have good morals.
It is the parents option to teach their children religion, which ever that may be. It is not a parents or the governments option to force their religion on other peoples children. It is also a parents option to teach their children ideas that go against fact. But these things must be done at home, church or private schools, not in the public school system.

Oooooo...umm...umm...I'd make sure I had my schedule for after I'm president set up so I could go on tour and give lectures at $150,000 a pop. ;)
Honestly, I've been contemplating the concept of a "Maximum Corporate Holding" law.
Essentially, it would make it illegal for a company/board/person to be a conglomerate, breaking them up into smaller, less powerful entities (similar to what they did to Ma Bell on the east coast in the 80's).
One advantage to this would be we would avoid situations where bailouts were neccessary because a bankrupt large corporate entity would have such a disasterous effect on the economy and people. It would insulate the finances of various holdings so that if one has an economic disaster it doesn't really effect subsidiary holdings.
Large projects that needed a merging of corporate funds would need some sort of government structure/board for oversite to manage the funds (the board members NOT connected to the companies involved).
It would also conveniently go a long way towards breaking the back of corporate control of government and placing control of the country squarely back in the hands of government. (Next, I'd work on getting people TRUE democratic representation in government. But I'm considered a bit strange and loony by most for having such strange thoughts. ;) ).

If I'm president, I'm making Obama my VP and getting Hillary on the health insurance thing. The rest would be pretty much like what Mary said, but I'd also be changing the way alot of the big-wigs in Washington work. They'd start punching a time clock, work for vacation days and get the same medical insurance as everyone else. Their salaries would be decreased, they'd have to pay into SS, and their retirement pensions would be within reason. They would get raises like other people, depending on their performance etc. And if the they missed to many days of work, they'd get fired. I'd re-vamp the welfare system big time. I'd have a program for the lower income elderly where they're taken care of properly and don't need to worry about meds etc.(this would of course come under the health plan that Hillarys working on).
And then there would be the IRS, lol, I'd like to deal with those folks personally. LOL (salivating at the thought).

It doesnt look good for the gov. either but sarah sold her jet first thing. She also had alot of ***** house shut down. I was shocked when I came throght Anchorage in July. When I lived up there in the late 70s early 80 there were pros all over the streets at night and lots of houses. I didnt see one pro or a house.
