Kitten Season

Just a note to folks out there that kitten season is here again.

So be aware, if you pick up a stray kitten, be prepared for a wait period if you plan to turn it over to an adoption service or no kill shelter.

If you pick up an adult cat (especially over 5 years of age), be prepared for a LONG wait before you can turn it over.

It's wonderful that so many of us want to rescue and help kitties, but be sure you're in the position to make the time commitment that will go along with rescuing a stray, if you don't intend to keep it. Otherwise, you can end up putting both yourself and a cat in a rather difficult situation.

well i was WAY OFF in thinking my cat was about to give birth so many nights ago, lol.  She still hasnt had them and i finally got the smart idea in my head to google a cat's gestation period and realized she probably isnt due for another 10-20 days lol.  (now having said that she'll probably have them today just to contradict things)

My kitties have all been rescues. One followed me home and pranced into the house like she owned the place, the other two I fell in love with when I was a youth leader at the shelter. My baby boy only lived 4 years=( I still cry over him, but when I took him in for his initial vet visit, the Dr. said that he had respiratory problems that were probably going to be chronic and probably wouldn't live very long. That's the downside of being such a cat lover, well all animals actually. But the two girls are still happy and thriving, one is at least 15, the other is probably around 11. They still run the show.

Whoops, sorry on that.

EX husband. It is ALWAYS open season on ex-husbands. The present bag limit on cats, btw, is , depending on size.

WHY IS THIS KITTEN'S FACE WET?

Gods, now I have something new and nonsensical involving a cat to figure out.

I LOVE cats! I only have 2 right now. My oldest is a black cat named Salem. We rescued him from the pound and I think he knows it because I am the only person in the house he'll have anything to do with. He sleeps right up against me every single night. The other one is an orange and white (I think a tabby cat, not sure) named Jack.  I was outside in the yard one day and felt something rub up against my legs. He was sooooo tiny and soooo adorable, I took him in. My husband was in bed at the time, and I sat him down on the bed with him and he went to work on my husband..LOL! He rubbed all over him purring away. It was right then and there we knew he wasn't going anywhere =)   I still to this day think that little kitty knew exactly what he was doing! LOL!!!

The Baron can safely say that Savas doesn't mind having his thread hacked. ;->

If I'm wrong, what's the worst that will happen? Savas will get mad at the Baron and refuse to speak to him?

(Somewhere a psychiatrist is rubbing his hands in glee at the money the years of therapy that situation will bring in.)

Troubleinohio, your hubby sounds like the kind of father to a daughter I'd be. Greet those boyfriends at the door with a shotgun. Let 'em know you're serious. ;->

We just finished a huge area sweep and nabbed a number of kittens. We're down to finding placement for the last two. Gods, I hope we don't get stuck with 'em. Any more cats around here and I'll have enough to form a little kitty baseball team.

When hubby and I got married I already had my two boys (Magnum & Robear) and I had them until 17 and 17 1/2 years of age.  Hubby was allergic to them and so I thought I'd have to find them a new home, but he said, "No, they are your babies and I'll take allergy pills."  He fell in love with them.  My mother moved in with us and brought her baby, Rusty.  We lost Magnum and a month later we got Daisy.  Then my mother got another cat, Roxy (a retired Maine Coon queen).  Then, I begged Tom for Abby and he gave in.  Well, then we found Katy on our porch one night and so now we have 5!  Poor hubby, he's gotten use to them and so his allergies are not as bad as they used to be - but everytime we brought a new cat in he'd say "this is the last one."  LOL!!!  NOT!!!  He loves them and they have become our children!

LOL Sara!  It's so true - they own us!  LOL!!!

Oh, I bet those kids are excited! Nothing, absolutely nothing cuter than kittens tumbling and pouncing!  I left a drawer open a little bit one time, guess where mama had the babies? Yep, had to go out and buy all new underwear! This one I got is fixed!

about to have a litter to take care of here too (and i mean literally any day/hour now, I think). I took home the kitty that the Ex let get pregnant (he refused to spay her, and SHOT some of the male cats that were mating with her). She is fricken huge and showing signs of early labor tonight actually. So Im getting a "nesting box" prepared for her although most times they end up not wanting to use anything a HUMAN made for them and want to have them somewhere else much more convenient (like your BED for instance, lmao).  I'll  be sure to post pics when they are born. Its gonna be very hard to find homes for them as most everyone knows the cat population is crazy these days and theres just nowhere to take them, and no one who wants anymore. But what can ya do? They're coming out of her belly no matter what and I'll have to figure something out. The kids are excited about it of course though!

LOL That is the perfect word! "pissie", LOL
I gotta tell you. Living here in florida I did not feel the need at first to purchase litter. I mean after all, all this sand here.  So I went down to the beach and got a couple of 5 gal buckets of sand!  Well, I was changing it every day cause it would stink and it did not clump like litter.  I finally went out and bought the clumping kind! Amazing difference it is! lol I put a cup of borax in with it and what la! no smells!  Duh!

Teko,

I can't stop laughing. We have 3 litter boxes and they are so darn particular about where they "do their business". The older one sets the tone when the litter is changed and if the two babies don't follow suit, she gets pissie...then they all get pissie.

Sometimes at night I will be sitting with all three of them and they are whining or looking disgusted and I announce "Everyone here who has a job, raise your hand (paw)". Of course, the only one is me.......LOL When one of them gets a a job they can have a 4th litter box!

I only have one, and she is a handful. Thinks she's a dog! I swear I would not be surprised if she barked! Got her from a shelter. She has two litter boxes. She pee's in one and goes do do in the other! Who said cats were finicky? lol

have to laugh at beatingthis' comment...almost same here.

stray cat kept appearing...IT was so skinny that i felt bad for her and bought her some food.  i dont think this cat had EVER seen a human or had any human contact.  well...after a year...i can finally "touch" her...but only while she's eating...she loves for me to rub her head while she's eating.  when i'm outside...she follows me around and stays nearby...but if i DARE approach her, she takes off like a bat out of hell.

I have 4, all of them found. I also have one outside for 5 years now. You think after all that time she would let me touch her...no way. I have a heated house for her as well as food, water ect. Guess that make her mine too or rather me hers!
My babies :)

Hi Savas,

Thanks for this reminder.

All three of my babies (kitties) are rescues, who are now strictly indoor cats.

I now have 3 mommies in my yard which I am feeding and who are living under my deck. One just had a litter of two kittens. I have tried to catch them but I have not been successful. The best I can do is keep the area under the deck clean and provide them food and water daily.

I would probably take them all in if I could. It is so sad that they have no home and no one to pet them and play with them.

And do you think my 3 appreciate what they have????? I doubt it....ROFL
