The Pro Bowl is a game between the two conferences. Remember how we explained about the AFC(American Football Conference) and the NFC(National Football Conference? The players that are selected to play in the pro bowl are voted in by coaches, players and fans. They players picked are normally considered the elite players of the league for the season.
The pro bowl is a game played that is just for fun. There are a few different rules compared to regular season. They main reason of the changed rules is to protect the players from injury.
This is the first year the pro bowl is being played before the Super Bowl. In the past it was always played after the Super Bowl. I'm not sure why they changed it this year and it doesn't make much sense to me. If you were selected to the pro bowl and are a member of one of the teams that are in the Super Bowl (Steelers or Packers) you aren't able to play in the pro bowl because they don't want to risk injury and not be able to play in the Super Bowl. I think the reason they schedule it earlier this year is because of money. Once the Super Bowl is over many fans then put football on the back burner and kind of forget about it. Since it's before the super bowl this year people still have football on their mind. Many years the teams in the super bowl have the most players selected to the pro bowl. So I think it's ridiculous that they schedule it to where some players won't be able to attend the game. So I think it all comes down to revenue. Last I checked the NFL makes plenty of money the way it is.
