I'm on Mackenzie Phillips page on Facebook and she posted this news about Mike last night. I cried, just like I cried years earlier when they found the lead singer Layne Staley dead. Alice in Chains was at the first concert I ever went to, Lollapalooza '93. They sang about heroin addiction, it was no secret that they struggled with addiction. I've followed Celebrity Rehab and I'm on their fan page as well, sending lots of love out to Mike's family, the Celeb Rehab family and all of us that struggle with addiction. I thought he was doing much better and truly hoped he was on his was to maintaining sobriety. I posted on my Facebook page that it is counterproductive, not funny and quite distasteful for anyone to make jokes about celebrities on or off the wagon since people have been mocking Charlie Sheen and I find it all so sad. People are people, famous or not, we are just flawed human beings. <3 to all of you, R.I.P. Mike, you are missed and your music will live on!
Another tragedy......so sad
Oh man. He was just on Celebrity Rehab encouraging the recent grads. This is Very sad news. I was a huge AIC fan, too...
I agree - the moving around by moderators confuses me as well.
@jillbo272 well said my friend thank you so much for the love.
Thank you both so much, I'm just another human muddling along on this mud ball we call home. I truly admire those in the real grip of addiction who continue to fight back.
Struggling a bit to understand why the mods think that a discussion about death due to addiction is a "social chat" issue, even if it did start with a rock star.
I just read about his,,,very sad,,,what a great man,,,use this,,,if anything can help you get clean and do it,,,its hard but so worth it,,this right here explains why,,,my DOC was Norco also and have been clean 160 days today,,,you can do this,,stay strong and stop putting it off!!!!!!
Me too madtram. You were huge to me in my recovery time. I mean huge.
@madtram.. thanks for your post and I agree with the support you are giving. Just know that we need you and all the experience you have gone through can seriously change other lives for example mine. So I thank you for sharing your story and bringing confidence and light to this as well. I look up to you for what you have gone through and in the words of Brother Frankie " you are loved".
Oh my madtram how awful that must have been to watch your sister in that state. You are SUCH a strong woman. I really admire you and have ever since reading your very first post.
Definitely - it's hard to understand that when you first quit because you're in so much pain. It's only with time that you realize just how hard it is and how strong you have to be to stay clean. It IS a lifelong battle and to think otherwise just sets up so many for failure. SO so sad this news. I just looked up the news on it and there's not much else being reported except that he was found in some home in Salt Lake City. Of course, they'll be doing an autopsy and I'm sure more will become known in the next few days. I really hoped SO much he was going to beat this. SO much. I know a lot of people thought he was a jerk on CR but not me. I always loved this guy - guess he's now with Staley huh? So awful. What a waste.
Thanks for using this tragedy as a driver to get clean. My sister has been on life support twice due to her addiction & having just lost my brother to an accident, I can only affirm what you already know- you will save your loved ones so much pain & fear when you win this fight.
From the heart & gut,
M
@imDONENoMore... the sad is that I saw him play when he came into L.a. and he was preaching about being clean and everyone was talking about how big of a miracle it was after 20 plus years of using and he was so happy.... Its like once we beat this disease then the real fight comes which is maintaining sobriety.
Oh my g-d. I don't even know what to say to that. I remember watching him on Celebrity Rehab and I'm also a HUGE fan of Alice in Chains (No Excuses - GREAT song). That is devestating news. Just horrible, I'm going to have to go elsewhere to read more about that.
And you're not kidding about reflecting on the seriousness of this disease, addiction. Oh my, you've just knocked the wind out of me with this news. I just don't know what to say here.
