My best friend was addicted to percocets for 7 Yrs' She was taken 15 to 20 at one time. Then she went in a inpatient rehab and they started to detox her. . She moved away from my house so the last thing I knew she was taken care of her problem peolpe would tell me 5,6,7,and 8 months later she is still doing good. I finnaly bump into her and she was Huge. She must of gained like 100 pounds. But she was very happy. .Well anyway
1 Yr later she is off methodone and she is on her own. Still not ussing. She has joined Jenny Craig. And exercises regular like a regiment. Point is you shoyld wait till you are fully of methodone even if it take another year. And your focuse right now SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN YOUR WEIGHT OR YOUR LOOKS. But always your life off of drugs
thank you very much for your words...it is so strange that people so far from me can help and give me strenght, but it is how i feel in this moment, stronger...and happy to have talked with you.
you are really kind persons!!
i'm trying to post in the other forum the same message....
ciao, Vanessa
vanessa, are we in the "social community" maybe you should repost in the Substance Abuse Community. i swear you posted there yesterday but now the thread is in the social community. you'll definitely get more responses there
vanessa,
have you tried taking anything for the depression? now, i don't know about methadone, so i'm not sure you can take an antidepressent while on that but it may help you. i was serverly depressed about 8 years ago and got on paxil, which really helped. when i'm depressed i can't put anything in my mouth though!! i literally lived on cottage cheese and tomatoes! how about counseling? you have been through a lot, quitting the alcohol, controling the drug use, your trying to make huge changes in your life right now and sometimes it's just great to be able to talk with someone. i found a wonderful therapist (which isn't easy to do) and she really helped me. you are doing such positive things for yourself right now, just remember that!!!! beat one thing at a time. and if you are depressed i know how hard it is to exercise.
do you have good friends to talk to?
i traveled through italy and greece about 10 years ago. i went to the "tourist" places such as venice, florence, rome, naples, down the amalfi coast (which was stunning!) i tried to get off the beaten path also, went to assisi and some other awesome '"hill towns" (is that what they are called)? siena? and a really small town, where only about 15 people live? that was something, you had to cross a bridge to get to it? anyway, great time, beautiful place and lovely people!!! where do you live?
i really wish you well. and another poster was correct, fad diets don't work!!
take care
shelby
Low carb is an awesome diet to do.
I lost a TON of weight on it....and never gained it back.
Like anything though, u can't loose a bunch of weight, start mauling food again.....and then expect to never gain a pound back. After u reach your goal, it's all about eating in moderation and working out (which i never do)
I gained more than 65 pounds when i was preg
After i had my son (9 months ago) i went back on low carb and lost it all and then some within 6 months..........maybe even like 5 months.
Drink a ton of water.............
Hi Vanessa
I'm not an expert but I would guess that the weight gain is from the depression, not the methodone. I'm a recovering addict (Methadone/Heroin) and I also fought some serious depression. The most important thing to remember when you are trying to lose weight is to go slow and steady. Binge diets, fads, "cleansing" or diuretics are not a good idea. You need to slowly decrease the calories you are taking in and slowly increase the amount you excercise. I have a really hard time excercising because like you I am way too tired when I get home from work. I have found that yoga is the answer for me. I can do it in my home, it's relaxing, it helps with depression and anxiety, and I feel better about my body. I just do 20 minutes a day, either right when I wake up or right before I go to bed. I download the podcasts from www.yogamazing.com and I promise they are not too challenging. Anyway, good luck!
THANK YOU SHELBY, YOU HAVE BEEN REALLY KIND WITH ME!
PROBABLY THIS IS ONLY AN EXCUSE, BUT REALLY I FINESHED WORKING AT 6.30 AND I'M HOME AT AROUND 7. WHEN HOME I FEEL SO BLEARY ( I HOPE THIS IS THE RIGHT WORD)....PROBABLY METHADONE TOOK AWAY ALL MY ENERGIES.
I STARTED METH. BECAUSE I WAS AN ALCHOL ADDICTED, AND WHEN I WAS 17 I USED HEROIN ( SNORTED IT), SO BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID TO START AGAIN WITH DOPE AFTER SO MANY YEARS (ONE DAY I WENT IN THE BIG CITY, BOUGHT IT AND THEN, AFTER ONE "LINE", I THROW IT AWAY IN THE TOILET...I WAS DRUNK THAT DAY)...I WENT TO THE PUBBLIC SERVICE AND STARTED THE PROGRAM.
NOW MY LIFE IS OUT FROM DRUGS AND ALCHOL, AND I FEEL REALLY GOOD FOR THIS, BUT SOMETHIMES I FEEL AS FOOD IS NOW WHAT BEER WAS 2 YEARS AGO FOR ME...A SHOULDER.
ANYWAY, THE WEIGHT DON'T GO AWAY, EVEN IF I EAT FOR ONE WEEK ONLY FRUIT...SO USUALYY I FEEL SO DEPRESSED THAT I BEGIN BINGEING....AND THE DAYS GO ON IN THIS WAY, AND I FEEL MORE DEPRESSED EVERY DAY...I CAN'T WATCH MYSELF IN THE MIRROR...
MY LEGS SEEMS MADE OF RICOTTA..
MY HOPE IS THAT WHEN I FINISHED THIS THERAPY, I AM GOING TO RETURN THE OLD ME..WITH MY 52 KGS.
I HOPE TO FIND THE STRENGHT TO DO WHAT YOU SAY TO ME.
PS: I'M REALLY HAPPY YOU LOVE ITALY. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?
hi, i LOVED italy when i visited years ago!!! hope to get back someday.
i have no experience with methadone, and i'm sure someone who has taken it will get to you shortly.
gaining weight is so difficult to deal with for us women! in your post you said that you aren't getting out of your home. well, you need to, get out, take a walk, get some exercise. the only way to lose weight is to burn off more calories than you take in. i know about depression, and the not wanting to do anything but self defeating behaviors (like binging) but exercise is one thing to stop these behaviors. does that make sense. when i traveled to africa i gained so much weight (imagine, traveling to africa and gaining weight?!.....it was those darn avacodos that i could pull from the trees!) when returning home i stuck to a good exercise, eating right diet and the weight slowly came off.
more importantly though, your getting clean from your drug of choice, which is what by the way? why the methadone? get that licked and then begin on the weight issues. but i'm telling you exercise, even if its just walking will help both in your recovery and your weight.
stay strong, welcome to the forum!!!
