Triggers on tv? Trying to detox from opiates

Okay I am right now taking between 40-60mg of methadone a day. I used to have a problem with oxys. Tonight I watched Nurse Jackie and I wanted to snort an oxy so bad. I  hope it's okay to talk about this. it's my first time starting a post. Well this show (Nurse Jackie) actually gives addicts ideas about how to hide your drugs and how to get a better high. It was a huge trigger for me. I am actually trying to get off the methadone. I have gained sooo much weight since I started taking them. I used to run miles and eat healthy. I actually had a great figure back then. Now I am gross. I have read that methadone can cause weight gain. Maybe it is the depression I have from actually being back on the methadone but I have never eaten sweets or carbs like I do now. I hated candy and had hardly ever eaten fast food or snack cakes but I think now that's all I eat. I plan to start my detox and start exercising a little more each week. I have all the vitamins for the amino acid protocol so I just need support. I don't have any support from friends or family - actually I have no friends and my family are all addicts. I also hope to start going to NA meetings and maybe even Weight Watchers. I need all the help I can get. I need to quit watching tv and get out of the house. I would be glad for any advice anyone can give me. My actual plan is to get down to 20 or 25 mg methadone in about 16 days then get my script for lortabs. I will take only my lortabs and then when they are gone, take ultram. It's what worked last time but I stayed clean only a few months and failed to go  to any meetings or have any support system. I did lose a lot of weight but gained it all back once I started on methadone again.

I am glad to know I am not the only one. Believe me Baron I won't watch right now because I have realized right now EVERYTHING is a trigger pretty much. I think it sounds silly that I have to avoid tv but this whole tv show is about a drug addicted nurse which I would normally love and I do plan to watch it on demand when I am not so - well when I am not trying to detox.

I have to also say that House is one of my favorite shows and since starting to taper and quit it is one of my biggest triggors for cravings. The 'end of the weekend' marathons they have been showing here are making me crazy... Good luck and keep at it.

I would suggest avoiding the show if it bothers you to much. It can always be rented on DVD at a later date when you have more clean time under your belt and more perspective. :->

When is House coming back?!?! I miss my weekly dose of obnoxious doctor!!!

I have had cravings because of things I saw on tv also.I can remember a few times watching a movie and in the movie someone goes into their medicine cabinet to pull out tooth paste and there were prescription medicine bottles in there and it would get me thinking about then craving vikes.I know that sounds really weird, but it's the truth.

Tryin, hang in there.I too was on methadone and gained so much weight.I jumped off at 25 mgs over a year ago and though it took some time the weight did come off and still is.All the best.....Kim

I missed Nurse jackie.......but just this week I saw House inhale a handful of pills and had my first craving in many months over it......the crave left hard and fast, just as it arrived; and it didnt last 15 minutes. But it surprised me!!!
