Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it.
There's been a lot of research on Valerian done here in the UK. Clinical trials have shown it to be as effective as benzodiazepines and yet not habit forming.
The problem is that since it's not classified as a drug there's a huge variety of strengths and dosages. It's important to find a good well-known brand and check that it's the highest strength possible. If it's very cheap, the chances are there's not much valerian in it!
Other herbs worth looking out for are passiflora, hops, skullcap, wild lettuce and wild oats. A qualified herbalist can make up a specific blend for you.
Remember that 5HTP will help to make you sleep too.
If you're feeling low, St Johns Wort will also help you sleep, but there are drug interactions with St Johns Wort so it depends what else you're taking.
Hope this helps.
many years ago I used valerian root and chamoile (sp?) tea and it would knock me out. Containers of same created a lot of interest in Customs in Toronto one time on a business trip.
Jim
i used both... at first only the valerian and it was a help with anxiety too, then when i had problems with sleeping, i used both at nights.... when i felt better, i had no problems at all stopping them.
I guess I'll give the Melatonin a try tonight, since nothing else is working so far.
Es I used it plus took melantonin 5mgs and it made me sleepy. I slept pretty good!
