Very proud of my Daughter

My youngest daughter always used to get upset when I'd try to fix things for her or wouldn't let her do something.."you just do that because I'm a girl!"...so I said.."OK....I'll go down to the school and fight for you" when she wanted to play on the football team, and I've been letting her do more and more of her own carpentry and painting type stuff...you know the stuff I can't do :-)...we bought her a new computer for Christmas and she couldn't connect to the internet...her brother tried to help her..no luck...I checked it out...she needed a new adaptor to connect to our router..so I bought it for her, her brother dinked around with it for a while and couldn't get it to work...today she came to me and said "can you help me with it?"  "after work, I sure can"  "Is it something I can do even though Scott can't do it?"  she asked  "no" I said..."tell you what..on the box is a number for Tech support...they are very good and they'll walk you through it...

she came running down here a little time ago with a big smile and a hug and a kiss and said "I did it!!! it works!!"  I gave her a big hug back and said "I knew you could do it" and as she walked off I said (as I always do after such a triumph  "not bad for a girl" for which I got a dirty look and another big hug...she's used to hearing that now.

Thank you, Sara....I learned about steparenthood from the best teacher in the world...my Dad...he remarried after my mother died and she had a then 14 year old son (who is now in his mid 60's!) and my Dad took him and loved him just like the rest of us 3 boys...I love my other "stepchildren" also, but K. and I have always had a special relationship where she will talk to me about anything..my favorite times with her have been times when she was younger and I'd be driving her someplace and she'd carry on a conversation like an adult.  We'll do that even today and though our views on things are different, we'll still have some great talks and special times together..

and she's a very special young woman (21) to me and though not my natural daughter I love her as much as my own...I've seen so many changes in her since her mother and I married nearly 11 years ago, some good, some bad, some downright frightening, but in the last 2 years I've seen her grow into a loving, caring young woman and we hardly ever leave each other's sight without an "I love you" and a hug...and she always asks me "are you ok?" knowing I'm still somewhat in mourning for my late son....I'm so happy she made it through these last 2 years and can live to tell about it..
