200mgs of oxycodone a day

I have a lonstanding prescription for norco 10-325. My doctor authorises 180 pills a month. I use to take it only when I needed it but when my wife was diagnosed with cancer last year I started abusing them for relief from emotional pain. My wife also has pain pills. She has 80mg oxycontin that she takes twice a day as well as 5mg oxycodone that she takes for breakthrough pain. She hardly ever takes the breakthrough meds and when her doctor changed her oxycontin from 40mg to 80mg she still had most of a months supply.  Last year I started taking her breakthrough meds along with my own. I was taking about 60mgs a day of the oxycodone which was all I could take without her running out. My norco ran out and I had a two week wait before I could fill it again. I started taking my wifes 40mg oxycontins since she wasn't using them anymore. I wasn't taking them correctly. I would chew them first.  I was taking two of the 40mg at one time along with two of the oxycodone. And I was doing this twice a day. I knew I was in trouble and I wanted to stop doing what I was doing. I told my wife the real reason why I was taking so many pills and she is on my side to get off of them. I also confided in my pastor and told him what I had been doing. I haven't been on these drugs for that long but I know I'm an addict. I tried to stop cold turkey last weekend. On the second day I had to take something and I did but instead of taking the 100mgs at a time that I was taking I took 50 and that helped a lot.  Yesterday I was able to get my norco filled. I only have 180 of them and I can't take more than twelve a day because of the tylenol limits. Can I taper off with this medication and if so how should I do it?  Before all this I only took the norco when I needed it which was only once or twice a week. I want to get clean and get back to being that guy again. So please help me with tapering off of this stuff.

It's hard to go cold turkey from any pills and, for most, it's even harder to taper. Tapering is hard stuff.  Are you sure you can do that?  Sometimes it's just better to "flush and run"!
If you must taper, I would do this:  50mg per day for one week. 25mg per day for one week. And so on..
It drags things out but discomfort may be less.

Find out what your min you can take right now is before you go into WD's each day.

also stop chewing the pills....swallowing will allow them to last much longer in your system and you will need less of them.
