Methadone has a long half life like suboxone...so to avoid discomfort//or to lessen discomfort...tapering down is the best way to go..and congrats on ur extreme discipline so far
There is a great article in the health pages written by a member who managed to taper down off methadone with relatively little discomfort from a very high dose///if i were u, i may read it..I believe he wrote 3 parts to his detox as he did it slowly
U did not state ur original dose..at least I did not decipher it from ur post...I have used methadone for pain at 20-30 mgs a day for 3 week intervals and no longer//so never had to go thru wds from it..but those who were on higher doses for longer periods of time seem to do better when they taper slowly//have seen lots taper from it here in the 2 yrs i have been posting here
U r u and I am Me///but if it were me I would go down to 2.5 mgs and stick til i could go lower//or CT//is ur doctor helping u with this?  there r meds/safe meds/he can RX u to help u thru this//I would do all I could to make it easier and I would ask my doctor for help///if i had relapsed more than once or twice..i would include aftercare into my long term recovery plan

But again//we r all different///u do what u gotta do but make a plan that will keep u from having to repeat this scenario again later on....life is too dern short to spend months doing this over and over

keep posting

hey dude your doing great so far...dont read anything into it..it will be what it will be
and nothing is going to change that ...I would wait a week at 5 b/4 jumping
it will give your body a chance to adjust to the lower dose...but then like I said
tapering below 5 is shear he11 so just jump and get it over with...
your doing this the right way...im shure your going to feel something
but it wont be nearly as bad as jumping from 20...hang in there
your so close now you can taste the end...good luck and god bless...Gnarly

Been on 5mg methadone last 2 years. On monday I took my last dose at 5am and haven't taken my dose since then. When will methadone be out of my system? Also, what should i expect next week or so?

I can't help with the methadone but once heard on here how someone would dissolve a pill in a very small amount of water and use one of those syringe medicine droppers in order to get to a 1mg drop. I think they measured out the water with the syringe so they knew how much to take each time. So if you dissolved 1 5mg pill in 25ml of water, 5ml of water would get you that 1mg of methadone.
Hopefully whoever said that on here will come across your post and can better explain. Congrats on your progress so far. I've heard methadone is one of the hardest to come off of. Keep up the great work!!
