Tapering from methadone wafers

I am asking this question for a friend, is there anyway to taper from methadone wafers?  Has anyone done this?  I am on the liquid so I can taper 1mg at a time, but it is difficult on wafers she has only been able to get to 10mg because of this.

ya I live in the great white north to where t-1s are OTC, but that amount of acetominephan will kill you or your liver, maybe not today but some day youll be looking for a liver. My wife works in a hospital, and shes seen it. If you know how you can extract the codiene only tried it a couple time with about 8 and it gave me a gut ache not a buzz.

Wow- I am so glad that I am on the liquid! The wafers sound like a nightmare for people who are tapering! We only have the liquid where I live... I agree with earlier posts, that she could grind it up and section it... though playing with your drugs can be a trigger.... not good!!!

I ws in the same boat you are in when I was hooked on opiates. I was selling everything I had just to get dope so I would feel "normal" and not get dope sick. I found the answer in methadone. I know methadone is not everyones cup of tea, but it was a Godsend for me! I went back to college and got my Paralegal degree. I was also a very bad alcoholic before starting methadone. I was in that small percentage of people that methadone totally takes away the craving and desire from alcohol. Thank God!! I am now clean and sober for 6 years this January 9th and I am doing great!! Please for Gods sake talk to someone before doing something drastic. Believe me, if I can get clean and sober ANYONE can!!

That's great news! I absolutely think he CAN feel good right now. When you first get clean people in the 12 step meetings refer to this great mood as a "pink cloud". That's when everything looks beautiful and it just feels so great to be clean and free from the chains of addiction. I do understand your concern though.
The best thing you can do is first take care of yourself, find someone who's been through the same thing with their spouse, and second continue to encourage him.  You can tell him not to feel afraid to talk with you because, after all, you married for better or worse and you remain totally commited to that vow. It
is kind of hard to talk to your spouse about your cravings and worries, so don't think for a minute that he's trying to exclude you, he may feel humiliated about his lack of control in this one area of his life, or he may really be trying to protect you from worry. Both seem to me to be healthy responses. Its good for him to be humble. It means he is starting to feel his emotions again after being numb from pills so long. If he's doing it to protect you, another good sign because his desire to be the man of the house again may mean that his self esteem may be coming back a little. Either way, just enjoy your husband right now and remember you can not control his desire to use. You can make yourself crazy worying about all the "what if's". Things will happen when they are supposed to.
Good to hear from ya!

I have been told "chick" is now inappropriate, "ma'me" is too old sounding and "gal" is sexist.

You girls/gals/ladies/chicks/women/babes/females really do need an equivalent of the term "guy".

Hey There,
It is very kind of you to think of us.  I thank you for that.  I have been reading the posts everyday.  I love it here...it helps me understand addiction and my husbands behavior.  He is doing well.  Our relationship seems to be 100% amazing now!  I can't believe i settled for the way i was treated before...when i didn't know he was on pills.  He is completely different now.  I can't explain it.  Everything has changed with his attitude, manors, cleanliness, everything.  Anyways, i am nervous...because he says he never wants to take a pill again, and that he doesn't crave it.  I find this hard to believe.  Is this possible?  He has been sober for almost 2 months.  He was taking codiene (tylenol 1 and 3) and percocets every once in a while when he could get them.  Another thing is that here in Canada we can get Tylenol 1's without a prescription...which is dangerous.  He would take 27 of those at a time to get the equivalent of tylenol 3!  We are going to the doc to get his liver checked out.  Anyways, he seems to be doing great....too great.  I am wondering if he is just saying he doesn't crave them to please me or make me less anxious?  Is it possible to be rid of them and not WANT to take them?  I thought with addiction it is a constant battle to fight the demons in your head that tell you to take just one.  How are you doing anyways?  How often do you go to NA meetings?
Thanks for caring
Catherine

Hi guys I have been floating around the forum for quite somtime and you all amaze me. I love opiates to the tune where I don;t doc shop I just call them in myself acting like a doctor. I would love to say it works great but I have a court case pending from last year you would think that would straiten me up but no I still keep on doin it. I usually call in tussionex or hycodan where each bottle is the equivalent of taking 45 vico's and I drink that down in a single day. The reason I use that is people don't look at you as weird when you are picking up cough syrup as opposed to pain meds. I detoxed in patient over x-mas but once again I have been doing it for the last 4 days I don't know if I will go through the hell again. Will I? Thanks any help would be appreciated.

Hi friend, I was worried about you all night, and I too prayed for you. We all have this addiction demon, and know how you are feeling. It can be controlled though. Stick around here and find out how, just by reading each new post. I am a mother of three little kids, and I am in Ga., the Greater Atlanta Area. You are worthy, and yes this is a terrible disease, but unlike some others, it is controllable! Love and peace to you! Kebby

Just for clarification; 27 Tylenol # 1's = 216 mg of codeine (8mg per tab; Ty#2=15mg, Ty#3=30mg, Ty#4=60mg) OR about 7 and 1/4 Tylenol # 3's!!
I also reside in Canada, and have bought Tyl # 1's(as you said w/o a Rx) many times.
Did you say 27 tabs at one time???

WHOA!
I don't understand all that mg talk.  Sorry.  All i know is that he said he would take 27 Tylenol 1's if he couldn't get T3's.  So whatever that means in Mg i don't know.  He did take a lot of pills at one time.  He says now that he wanted to kill himself...but didn't know it at the time.  Right now we are dealing with his issues.  They all stem from childhood.  Anyways, hope this answers your question.  Hahahaha.
Take care

Lady please call me at the number Kebby gave you. I'll be there until 6:00 tonight. If you want to talk later call Kebby or email her and sh'll give you my cell. Take care of yourself read my post to you under addiction I was there once to.

Sharonver,
I have no idea what happened to my last post to you it got all scrambled. I asked whether she could break the wafer in 5 pieces to equal 1 mg each. Sorry about that. You caould always call a Walgreens or Eckerd and ask the pharmacist there. They can tell you if the wafers can be broken.

crush the wafer and mix to assure uniformity of the powder. divide like you were making individual mounds of coke (Duh!) mix in fruitjuice. enjoy! the last 5 mg is a *****...mostly psychological than physical. clinics will not break a 10 tablet into 2 5's then again into 2.5's so its 5 to zero....hope this helps-mog
