Career Professional with Hydrocodone Addiction

Any help or words of advice and encouragement appreciated. Im a 37 yr old female that's been on Lortab 10/500 for a year now. Dose is 1 tab 3 times a daily. But over the past few months I've gotten up to 6-7 a day. I'm so ready to quit!!! I don't think I have the willpower to taper because if they're available I take them. So I just took my last dose and going to enjoy my last good night of sleep for awhile. I have restless legs anyways so that's the worst part I'm anticipating. I have a broken pelvic bone from an accident which us why I was 1st placed on hydros. Please bear with me the next few days/weeks as I'm sure I will need everyone's help. My family has no idea I'm taking hydros. So the withdrawals may be hard to explain. Thank you in advance

btw....I do have 30 Lortab 10/500's that I can taper with.

Its actually a really good time of the year to pass off detoxing, because you feel like you have the flu so you can just pass it off as that since its going around anyways!  Your family shouldnt be the wiser. Although I do think telling your family is the best thing to do, just from the support stand point, I understand not wanting to yet.

Anyways, Best of luck! Keep posting for support and check out the Thomas Recipe for help with the w/d symptoms!

Hi there, congrats on wanting to quit this tough addiction. I agree that tapers are somewhat tricky. Is there a friend that can hold your pills so you can stick with your taper plan? A properly done taper can reduce your withdrawal symptoms greatly or it can just extend the inevitable. I never could stick with a taper. If I had pills around they would be gone and I would keep telling myself tommorow. Also what will you do if your pelvic bone starts hurting you? There's nothing wrong with taking narcotics for legit pain but sometimes it's not worth the relief just to become addicted in the end.

If you are able to tell your family and be honest with them it will help your chances of succeeding. It's tough to go at it alone unless you just pretend you have the flu or something. Plus if you tell them I'm sure they would be supportive and help you with your taper. Just try to go into all this with a positive attitude. Don't work yourself up to much about the wds. All that ancipation and fear can actually make it worse than it is. It's rough and it's ugly but there's a brighter side on the other end. Wds won't last forever. It's like a week or two of misery to avoid a life of addiction and misery. It's a pretty good trade off if you ask me.

Anyways wanna wish you good luck and if you need anything we're all here to help. Alot of great people on this site that can help you push past this and move forward. Trust me you can do this. I never thought I could and even though I still struggle sometimes staying clean I know I'm on the right path.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Congrats on making the decision to come here and ask for support.  You will find a lot of it here and get various types of advice.  Let me start off by saying tapering doesn't work for a lot of us.  By hearing your thoughts, I don't think it is going to work for you either.  I tried it several times and I am like you.  If I had twenty that I was going to use to taper, I would take 3 the first day, then 10 the next day and the final 8 on the third day.  Having 30 more of them is a little concerning.  I hope you can do what I have seen others do and take just enough to keep the w/ds away.

Good Luck and keep coming back here.  You will find a lot of support here.
