Since you told him all about your past use, he'll know what to expect on the drug screening, and you won't have your baby taken away. You MAY get a referral to speak with a social worker, but that's no big deal and usually it's just a one or two time thing.

Don't worry!!!! You did the RIGHT thing and should be super proud of yourself.

Thanks so much for all of the advice I actually went in and saw my dr. and let him know that I was enrolled in the subutex program, and what I was taking before. But still I am so worried about losing this baby because of a positive drug screen if it goes back for the baby 4-5 mnts. I am completely clean now other than my subutex, but still a nervous wreck.

Gosh I can't believe myself...I NEVER do that...pregnancy brain strikes again

I completely neglected to mention what lulu said...do NOT stop...do NOT change your dose...without talking to your OB.

I had to take pain meds while pregnant and neither of my children were born dependent, and they're both healthy and brilliant. (to me, brilliant, LOL).

With that being said...your doctor's help is what will get you to a healthy baby, so you must be honest and completely  open with him.

And again I do agree with lulu- opiates do cross the placental barrier.

They all cross placenta synthetic or otherwise, but the baby doesnt get the 'high' that we experience.
After 4-6 mths it is very unlikely that detox would result in a miscarriage, BUT it can trigger prem labour, I was safe to detox, but that was ME, (everyones different) AND I was under medical supervision.
No one should be advising you to stop taking subutex/opiates, anything your on, you must continue to take, until your doctor advises you a safe way to stop. it is highly dangerous to advise a pregnant lady to stop taking subs/meth, But it is safer and more comfortable for a baby to detox in utero than after being born, again thou WITH UR DOCS GUIDANCE, and we dont know your med hist, which needs to be taken into account.

Let me know if u need to talk, i been thru it all, and have a healthy happy 2 yr old, who was full term, and is huge! And wasnt born addicted, but it isnt the end of the world if they are, as the staff dont allow them to suffer, its best avoided thou, and heart breaking to watch. We saw 3 babies w/d in special care when we went in as my lil boy spent 2 hrs in there for jaundice, but thank God was ok.

Good luck, and dont feel judged, babies dont cure addiction!!

Hi there,

I agree 100% with the others. I'm the Community leader over in the Pregnancy 18-34 forum here on Medhelp, and you would be surprised (or maybe not :-) ) at how many pregnant women we have in exactly your situation.

Our advice is always the same....tell your OB. do not wait. tell your OB and be perfectly honest. Don't worry about losing your children, or getting in trouble; your OB's goal here is merely to deliver a healthy baby to a healthy mom and send them home together. If you can come clean and get a plan together with your OB on what to do, you will know that the doctor is monitoring your baby and you won't have to worry about what may or may not happen with the baby as a result.

Most meconium is tested after the baby is born, and your drug use WILL show up, even if you quit now. If this occurs and you haven't spoken to your OB, you MAY get in trouble and CPS MAY get involved. However, if you tell your OB now..hopefully you will avoid all of that.

so Just be honest with your OB, OK? In nearly every situation I've heard positive outcomes, so don't worry - your OB is there for you and baby...he just wants you both to be healthy.

Hi there, and welcome. I'm so sorry about your current situation. I'm sure you must be very anxious about the baby being safe. Oxycontin is a Pregnancy Category B, which luckily means that it does not harm the baby as far as birthdefects. However, Oxycontin DOES cross the placental barrier, and your baby will be born stongly addicted and in withdrawal within an hour or two of being born if you don't do something right now. I'd strongly suggest an emergency appointment with your OB/GYN doctor as fast as you can. You have just enough time to get off the opiates, but you need close medical supervision while you are coming off. Please call tomorrow! And let us know what happened.

Hey sweetie.DONT PANIC+DONT STOP TAKING THEM u will go through awful detox+could easily have a miscariage.Im assuming ur obgyn doesnt know.Heres what u need to do n the morning call ur DR office if u cant speak2ur DR THEN+THERE speak to a nurse be100%honest(dont worry they deal w/this A  LOT MORE THAN U PROBABLY THINK).Explain how much u take daily etc.U will get an emergency appointment. From there u will tell ur dr the total truth. Not sure how much ur taking/orally,snorting,shooting etc. can u let me know?U still have time to taper slowly so ur baby wont have w/d cause u will b off them(ur ob will make a plan for u and u have to follow it so if u cant control urself then have some1else hold+distribute them2u).Heres a couple REALLY important things.First NO dont take subs, methadone. Those r worse as far as w/d's than pills to get off of+take much longer.2nd u wont have2worry about ur baby getting taken away as long as ur honest w/ur obgyn NOW.N some states they always test u+the babies1st stool(n the babies stool anything u did after4+1/2-5months shows up)some I think but not sure they do random ones+of course if the baby shows ANY signs of w/d,also if ur  on medicaid they test,if u have any criminal histoey w/drugs+the list goes on it can b as simple as some1calling+saying ur taking them, also if u keep using+dont tell them the baby will go though w/d BAD+there trained2look4that(they will know n a second if the babies having minor w/d they kept my angel an extra day because his lip was quivering and he was just cold then u will get the baby taken away4not telling ur obgyn.AS LONG AS U COME CLEAN NOW it will b n ur chart so u will go home w/ur little one.Lastly dont beat urself up over this as long as u do the right thing now u+the baby will be fine.your very lucky that those opiates dont peirce the placenta so ur baby wasnt getting a buzz too.I was prescribed180lortabs through my pregnancy, weaned off,I had a healty9.6lb boy I was induced2weeks early because he was so big.
THE MAIN THING IS BE SMART CALL ASAP BE HONEST GET A PLAN+STICK2IT+Uneed aftercare(NA/CHURCH/THERAPY/C AN ADDICTION SPECIALIST/COUNSELOR/WHATEVER U CAN DO SO U CAN STAY CLEAN+SOBER.My son is almost2+1/2+hes perfect, very smart, hilarious,so happy I think u get it ur little1will b to as long as u do what i said.BTW BOY OR GIRL???

Sweetie...we can't help you at all. You need to call the doctor and talk this all through... Are you taking Sub now?? Do they know you're pregnant?

I am not trying to turf you somewhere else. It's that we can talk all night with you and that's fine BUT...the OB needs to guide you. I do not want to frighten you. I'm sure you're very scared and upset right now at the possiblity of having a problem with your child...Just do the right thing and phone your doctor...Good luck.
