Hmmm...Where is hazyworld? It's been 4 days...
Wow... I had to read the post twice and step back for a minute... My doctor has said to me... Do NOT drink more than one alcoholic drink while on this medication... but NEVER said to do it. Do you think maybe, possibly because of the way the doctor may have worded it that you misunderstood what he/she was trying to say........ just a thought....
The doctor and pharmacist should have their licenses taken away IF they said this......
sometimes i think part of the problem with drugs is misinformation, i mean, when i was young growin up in the 70's i was told if i took acid i would jump off a building thinking i could fly, well i took alot of acid and never did anything crazy enough to die (luckily), but what that did was make me not believe the adults about the bad consequences of drugs. Now have ppl jumped off buildings while on acid, YES! everyone is different on drugs.
my point is scare movies like reefermadness ,and shows like dragnet that overdramitize drug effects made me think adults were lying to me to scare me away from something that really wasn't "that bad" for me. (turned out they were right to a point).
now can someone get away with drinking a couple beers on xanax , well i can tell you i drank on valium and xanax plenty, most times was fine , but ther was a couple real scary times where i almost died , because after those 2 beers i felt so good that i kept goin (shots ,wild turkey, tequila, more beer etc.) because judgement is lost, and mixing 2 depressants is VERY DANGEROUS!!!
everyone is different, (tolerence & such) i am sure ther are ppl out there that could end up introuble off any amount of alcohol with xanax, so you have to make wise descisions , even if a pharmacist tells you its ok ,he doesnt know your whole situation.
i am not relly one to give advice as i am still on pills, but have felt change coming in my life, i just wanted to give you my prespective, i think learning to love yourself and realizing there is a purpose in this life helps with not worring about things and depression, i am tryin to learn to have faith in my life , and it has helped alot with worring about everything,, oh btw i am prescribed 1.5 mg. of xanax a day per month , and the doctor says ishould take it, and i am a drinker (not lately though) but i hardly ever take them cuz, i am so afraid of becoming dependant on them like i am the opiates.
I can tell you that you could die from the mixture. Does that matter? Why do you NEED 2 beers? You said you used to have a problem with alcohol? Why would you risk it? And why would you mix something that THIS MANY people are telling you not to? Do you think that we have a motive for telling you not to?
Well i just called one they said you absolutely should not drink while taking benzodiazepines .
Okay...good luck but I still think they're nuts.
im in the usa my pshychtist is in utah and my pahrnist is in nevada where i live,,,i have also calld pharmaICIES ALL over the usa and tehy say 2 beers wont hurt with my past of 6 years of drinking lots on xanax..i will not drink more than 1 or 2..i dont want to be a drunk...just my depression has come from not being able to drink
HI as addict we can justify anything...it worries me that you have a history of alcohol abuse....so do I and thats why I cant have even a beer...I know I wont stop at 2 the main thing that is alarming is if you read the labels on the bottles they will tell you not to drink will on these meds...I have taken them and remember what mine said this is something you can get away with once then the folloing time it could Kill you its like rolling dice
every time you drink you dont know the outcome as addicts we seldom think of the consequences of our actions please head our warnings where only trying to look out for your best interest ...good luck and God bless.....Gnarly
my former stepson drank beer and took several xanax for quite a while..he learned his lesson the hard way...was riding his motorcyle one day and essentially passed out and lost control...can you say road rash? Thank God he was wearing a helmet or he'd be dead today (after events of the last 18 months I probably wouldnt care)
But for you....you can't do this...you've got to get of this stuff...I can't believe a doctor telling you to drink and take these things.
Jim
I have never heard of a doctor telling someone to drink! I have heard some say "a glass or 2 of red wine a couple times a week can be be benificial for the heart, but moderation is key, but never mix alcohol with prescription meds, and some otc meds".
I am curious, if you are in the U.S.A. and what kind of Dr. MD, psychiatrist - mental health
podiatrist - foot doctor
optometrist - eye doctor
dentist - tooth doctor
urologist - deals with bladder
obstetrician - deals with pregnancy and birth
pediatrician - child doctor
oncologist- cancer doctor
neurologist - brain and nerves
cardiologist - heart
nephrologist - kidney doctor
rheumatologist - treatment of arthritis and other diseases of the joints, muscles and bones
dermatologist - skin
endocrinologist - thyroid and ductless glands
gastrologist - digestive system
said this to you?
In a perfect world,I'd like to have the names of the pharmacists and doctor so I could call the Feds. This is crazy and we all agree on that. Be careful,do some research on your own. Every one of these prescriptions state NOT to use alcohol while taking these drugs. And why are you taking all those different benzos? No need to answer, just think about it.
Good luck~
Vicki
I would not do that! You are combining a lot of medication with alcohol and an anxiety disorder. That is not a good mixture. Could you just take the medication that you are prescribed for anxiety and not drink? I think that would be much more safe.
These doctors and pharmacists are out of their minds! You are never supposed to mix alcohol with most meds. Besides, it is only a matter of time before 2 beers become 3 and so on. I know from which I speak. Once addicted, always addicted. Please get another doctor who understands addiction because you are headed in the wrong direction.
Thanks all for your answer but i have called pharmists all over the statesa nd they say 2 beers with these meds is ok....the dr put me on adderall for refractory depression, and prozac for depression and i have had anxiety for 20 years and beeen on the benzos xanax for 17,then either klonooin or ativan the last two years...i have to believe the dr and all the pharmists i will drink no more than 2 beers
What doctor in their right mind would prescribe someone to drink a couple beers at night being on those meds? The doctor wants you to start living again and he has prescribed you a deadly cocktail? This is insane. You drank everyday for 6 yrs while taking zanax and then went cold turkey....first off you should never go ct of benzo's. That is dangerous all on its own. Find a different doctor and get some help with your depression.....Your life is on the line sara
HI first off I agree with IBKleen it is not safe to mix alcohol and benzos like xannx or addiril
I would also question a doctor that had me on addiril xannx and prozac all at the same time...it like take the xanax to slow down and chill out...take the addiril to get lifted back up from the xanax and let just add a antidepressant in there to try and stabilize you mood
right now your not high...your sideways you dont know if your coming or going on this sort of combo...I would get a second opinion and ditch the dr that would prescribe alcohol on top of all that especially knowing its contradictory to all 3 of the meds ....if you where drinking 12 beers a day starting to drink again would be like lighting a fuse to start abusing alcohol again...you need to check out an N/AorA/A meeting if you got insurance you could go to a substance abuse conslor but like IBKleen said you need to work on the root issues of why you need all these drugs in the first place ...please seek out some help....good luck and God bless.......Gnarly
Your doctor and your pharmacist told you to drink with those medications? I am blown away by that and if it is true, they should both have their licenses suspended.
First it is a lethal cocktail and second, alcohol is a depressant.
You are headed down a bad path with this combination. Have you considered therapy to get to the root of the depression?
I hope you get the help you need and do not listen to the people who are telling you to drink with medication.
