hi, i would stay away from the tramadol, i know you suffer pain but you wanted to get off the hydros before, tramadol is also very addictive, and will give you more problems, you dont want to swap one for another, please keep posting, i re read your last posts , and let us know how your doing, best wishes, sudie.
tramadol is addicting for some people. if you are not currently a drug abuser, then it's something to watch out for. if you have a history of abusing drugs, then you really need to weight the benefits and risks before taking it.
if it is a chronic pain and other non-narcotics aren't helping, then pain meds can be used to some degree of responsibility if prior addiction exists. you have to be REALLY careful though and make sure your doc knows to keep an eye on your fills and limit how much you get.
in any event, thats assuming you have chronic pain. you didn't give much detail. do you have a history of addiction?
It's classified as an opiod agonist and works much like traditional narcotic pain relievers. It works well for pain but whether to take it or not is up to you. I won't assume your an addict or recovering addict but you did post this question in the addiction forum. If you have had previous problems taking as prescribed then you need to be extremely careful. It is just as addictive as any other and can get out of hand quickly. The big difference is coming off of them. Unlike traditional opiates, these should be gradually tapered. Disregard if you plan on taking this less than a couple of weeks. Just make sure you take directly as prescribed and discontinue use once the pain subsides or is more easily controllable with OTC meds.
I have used it for pain, but liked them too much to be able to be responsible and suffered some pretty bad withdrawals coming off. A doctor also prescribed them for me with a taper schedule when I was coming off lortabs and it worked well and I did not experience hardly any withdrawals.
Just keep in mind that these medications have great benefits and if used properly and as needed, you shouldn't worry too much.
