Can I Cold Turkey off 160 MG oxycodone after taking for a year?

I have been taking oxycodone for a little over a year now, and I started out where 60 MGs was plenty, however now I am up to 160 and that's not enough, and I want to stop. They control everything I do, until I take them.  What will cold turkey do? and what should I expect?

Hi friend and welcome to the forum. I was addicted to oxy too and I cold turkeyed off it at about 80 mgs a day. It was no walk in the park but it's definitely doable. The good news is that you are only at this for a year.  The bad news is that 160 mgs is a high dose. I would get myself down by half that dosage and then make the jump. You will have to be very in control to do an effective taper.  If someone can hold your pills and dole them out to you daily? We aren't MDs and can't give you a specific taper plan. Make one on paper based on the number of pills you have left. Drop it every fews days until you get to 8. During this time you will feel a bit ill, but not over the top. Hook up with NA or find a consistent support group. Start taking B complex and vit C. Gather supplies for the jump like Epsom salts for muscle soothing baths, Gatorade or water, Hylans Restless legs and a sleep aid like  Valerian root or sleepy time tea.  Gather up some funny movies, dark chocolate and tissues for the dreadful but cathartic crying spells. You're gonna feel like you have the flu with anxiety and depression thrown in. The acute phase is over in a week or two and things will slowly get better from there.
If you make up your mind to do this once and for all, have a very positive and fighting spirit and stick to the plan, you will have success. Remember there is no crying in baseball. You just have to ok with not being ok for a little while.
The best advice I can give you is that once you jump make sure that it is absolutely impossible for you to gain access to pills.  It may involve losing a few "friends"  Delete and block all your connections and let them know clearly that you are done. If you can't get any pills, you can't relapse. Stay close to us here for support and guidance. You can do thos!
